Good genes: "His father Al Thiero was a top recruit coming out of high school and attended the University of Memphis, where he played center for a team that was ranked No. 1 in the country and was coached by John Calipari. His mother, Mariam Sy, was selected in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics out of Oklahoma City University."
