No one has posted here since November, but this video just popped up on my Twitter feed https://x.com/scnext/status/20202795...A2NHZ_hNyS2mFg
Obviously a coaching change would make it less likely he ends up at UC

The injury slowed Abaev, but you could see at the end he was figuring things out. He’ll be a hellava player, for somebody else.Originally posted by London 'Cat View PostWes had also recruited a 5 star McDAA who turned out not to be what we thought or wanted. Maybe Allen would be terrific but maybe not. Sorry to see him leave before he knows who will be the coach next year. But if he doesn’t want to be here then best wishes.

well he was auditioning. He came in thinking he was all that as did Tyler Betsey. I, for one, want team players. Regardless of his limited minutes in the final games, Abaev will never be one. It has nothing to do with injuries but self -perception. Tyler B. had the same mind set. WM didn't know how to handle egos. We all saw that with Jeremiah D, Dan S.. and others. In his prior jobs, WM had guys fighting for pt and not top recruits..Originally posted by longtimefan View Post

Let's be honest, if you were this young man, you would also have asked for the release. Allen could recommit to UC. But, it makes complete sense for him to reopen his commitment in case UC hires a coach Allen feels is not a good fit for him. This keep his options open to find the best fit. My hope is UC finds its next coach quickly so that coach can contact Allen and persuade him to recommit.Originally posted by GoBearcats31 View PostNo longer committed to UC

Correct me if I'm wrong but the injury didn't allow him to get in many games towards the end of the season and after recuperation. He did have one game where he scored several pts and some rebounds. But he was far from figuring out how to be a team player iny opinion. His M.O. of standing around the perimeter waiting for the ball to passed to him was still present. WM could never get these kids to play as a team and S.A epitomized that. I do wish him and WM success in the future but I'm glad it's not our problem anymore.Originally posted by longtimefan View Post

I’m not privy to intimate team info so take this with a grain of salt. Is it possible Abaev was coached to do that ? He didn’t appear selfish to me. Self confident, yes, but entitled no.Originally posted by Rufus View Post

i feel the same about Leo’s whipping boy Jizzle. He’s been a scorer & honestly UC needed that (midrange or not), so if UC needed him to be something else it was up to WM to correct.

I couldn't agree with you more! I like James from day one! Yes, he had his share of bad games, but what CWM recruit didn't?
If the players didn't progress as we would have liked, its on the coach. He had 5yrs, and with most of those players, he had them for 3-4yrs. James, Skillings, Reed to name a few.
I wasn't a huge fan of Abaev from day one.. I guess will see how he progresses at FSU. Hopefully he turns it around and shows his real talent level.
I feel CWM was over his head here at UC. CWM was a good recruiter, not much of a coach in crunch time.

I'm far from being a bball expert but I think you are correct that WM probably used SS in that very capacity when games started slipping away and a score was needed immediately. However when brought into games early especially at the beginning of the season his approach was the same. Shon very rarely went inside with or with out the ball. In fact that epitomizes WM's teams. Practically everyone was one dimensional. If the jump shot wasn't falling then we were offensively stymied. That's what I watched for five years.Originally posted by SKell82155 View Post
