It would certainly be CJC’s Herb Jones commit, but we could have had Thaim for less. Very doubtful.

The staff have shown interest in Ole Miss big man James Scott. 6'10" rim protector who posted a 4.8 BPM in his junior season. Ultra low usage on offense but a 4.0 DBPM and 9% block rate, both top 10 in the portal.

According to ESPN, he is projected to go in the 2nd round. Although Momcilovic will be drafted primarily as a three-point shooter, I saw a game this past season where he took the ball to the hole. I was surprised because I never saw him drive the ball before. Also, playing at Iowa State where they play defense first, this guy may not last until the 2nd round. He has a beautiful game to watch.

Yeah, you have to remember that UC team had two future NBA starters (Martin (Nets) and Reuben Patterson (Portland Trailblazers)). Also, DeMarr Johnson, another player drafted into the NBA was on that team. Let's not forget Pete Mickeal was a 2nd round draft pick. Think about that for a minute. UC had 4 players drafted into the NBA from one team. That is big stuff.

Also, that team had some good size. For instance, DeMarr Johnson 6'9", Ryan Flecher 6'9", Jermaine Tate 6'9", BJ Grove 6'11", and Donald Little 6'10".

I said that to say this, the 1999-2000 team had size, talent, and great coaching. That team would have probably made the Final Four if Martin did not hurt his leg in the NCAA Tournament. Huggins did not start out attracting that kind of talent and size. However, once Huggins proved himself as a winning coach and a coach that could develop NBA level talent, he was able to attract big-time players. Hopefully, Calhoun can make a good name for himself by winning big games.

I have said too much already, but to make a story short, good teams usually have some size. A team needs some size to be versatile, especially when it gets to NCAA Tournament play. In Tournament play, a team never knows who it is going to play next. Three of the four teams in the Final Four this year all had good size (Michigan, Illinois, Arizona). UConn, probably the smallest of the Final Four teams, could hit you with a 6'11" center and bring another 7'1" center (Reibe) off the bench. It also had guards and wings with decent size.

The NCAA champion, Michigan, had a starting front line of 7'3", 6'9", and 6'9". That is championship level size. Good solid defense and rebounding, and consistent scoring are also very helpful.

Patterson was not on the 99-00 team - that starting five was Martin/Tate/Mickeal/Demar/Logan or Satterfield. The guard that didn't start and Fletcher were the main bench players. Little and Grove combined to 15 minutes total a game. Leonard stokes was the 8th man.

It wasn't a big team, but it was very physical.

You are exactly right. For some reason I thought that because Patterson and Martin played on the earlier teams together, he was on the 1999 team as well. He was not on that team. He left in 1998.

all the doom and gloom on here is overblown. next year will probably be rough. huge transition, from a good guy / players coach, where the inmates ran the asylum, to a more hardnosed approach, where there will actually be expectations and accountability on the players. I'm ok with it - the wes miller era was never going to work, not at the B12 level. hopefully, the CJC will. But, between the two, I'll put my support behind the "throwback" approach, and go through the growing pains.

So, we miss on the 24th rated transfer center - a guy most of us had never heard of. we don't have enough players to practice - its still April, what, six months from the season? we all need to back off of the ledge, and take a deep breath. it will all work out. just have a little faith, and a little patience. i'm sure that there's a better mumbo jumbo way of putting it, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

agreed - first year, team work, individual improvements, attitude and Bearcat toughness. Second year CJC will have time and players will see he is the real deal as will the NIL donors whom I believe will dig deeper.
