The Hatters show their record as 7-5, but three of the wins were over D2 teams. They have played two B12 teams, with UH blasting Steton in Houston, 79-48. Stetson beat UCF in another Dawkins head-scratcher, 85-82, in nearby Orlando. They won their last game at 4-9 FIU, 80-68.

The Hatters' top scorer is Jalen Blackmon, a junior guard who has led Stetson in scoring in ten of their twelve games, including the last eight. He's an outstanding shooter, hitting 41.7% from beyond the arc and 96.4% from the line. From Marion, Indiana, Blackmon played the 2021-22 season at Grand Canyon before transferring to Stetson.

Stetson sit at #229 in KenPom, with a well-above-average #119 in offensive efficiency. However, they are a woeful #330 in defensive efficiency. Essentially, the Hatters are opposites to Merrimack.

Leading scorer Jalen Blackmon is the younger brother of former Indiana standout James, and son of James Sr. who hooped at Kentucky back in the 80s

    Interesting staff:
    - Head coach is Donnie Jones, who was the UCF head coach the first three years of the AAC
    - Assistant Shawn Finney was the head coach for Tulane during UC's final years of CUSA (admittedly, I do not remember him -- he followed Perry Clark)
    - Assistant Brett Comer was the point guard for the famous #15 seeded Florida Gulf Coast aka Dunk City squad that made the Sweet 16
    - Assistant Joey Gruden is the son for Jay and nephew of Jon; he walked on at Dayton after attending Sycamore High School

          Dan Hoard:

Doing some prep for the #Bearcats vs Stetson tonight. I have never seen free throw stats like this. Four of the five Stetson starters are a combined 92-for-96 this season (96%). Overall, the Hatters are the best free throw shooting team in the country at 81.8%.

Stetson MAY BE a very dangerous team for Cincinnati to play. They match-up very well with UC. They start a 6'11" center and a 7'0" forward. The center scores about 11.4/game and gets 7.6 rebounds/game. They shoot 47% overall and shoot 37% from the three point line. I hope that UC does NOT look at this team as another weak mid-major opponent. UC is NOT a good come-from-behind team. They DO NOT want to get behind early and have to play catch-up the rest of the game. Here is hoping for the win.

Then our Bigs can't just rely on strength as they did against Merrimack. They need to get in position for rebounding and box out by actually using basketball skills. On offense they can't wait for the lob over a 6 6 player either. They will have to fight for position. The guards will need to pass and see the floor and anticipate where the big will be. Either that of have the fight inside and screen for CJ and Simas.
