Simas Lukosius in the post season/conference tournaments:

    3/9/22 versus Xavier -- 27 points (4/8 from 3; 11/13 FT), 7 rebounds, 2 assists (Butler)
    3/10/22 versus Providence - 4 points (0/7 from 3; 2/2 FT), 6 rebounds, 2 assists (Butler)
    3/8/23 versus St. John's - 23 points (4/9 from 3; 3/3 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists (Butler)
    3/12/24 versus West Va. - 31 points (7/12 from 3; 8/8 FT), 2 rebounds, 4 assists (Cincinnati)
    ____

21.3 points, 41.7% from three, 92.3% FT -- quite impressive considering he went for 4 points on 1/11 from the floor in one of those four games

It's almost like ESPN doesn't know what to expect and did their prediction from previous stats without taking into account the absence of Dickinson and McCullar.

I suspect John Newman will come ready to play tonight, unless there was something nagging him that contributed to his struggles yesterday

One more word about the WVU game. The announcers said someone was the leader besides SL. It was a tourney game, and some guys just didn't perform. SL was cool and showed leadership that was badly needed. Hopefully the nerves are settled down now and all will play well under pressure. I give love to Aziz and Reynolds. They beat up WVU so bad that the bigs lost it with technicals and then quit. Well done. Aziz was all over the place in the first half. I really enjoyed watching him. Reynolds had that power put back and I saw disgust in the eyes of the WVU player. Well done.

We opened as 1.5-point favorites for tonight's game and the spread has already moved to 2.5.

With Dickinson and McCullar out, that's 40% of the 74 points from our first match-up that Kansas will have to account for elsewhere.

In their place, we'll see some combination of their two true freshman combo guards in 6'4 Elmarko Jackson (4.1 ppg, 18.6 mpg) and 6'3 Jamari McDowell (1.7 ppg, 6.8 mpg) along with their two grad transfers in 6'8 Parker Braun (2.2 ppg, 7.7 mpg) an 6'4 Nicolas Timberlake (4.6 ppg, 14.1 mpg) who came from Santa Clara and Towson just to hold the roster together for this season.

Furphy killed us to the tune of 23 and 11 on 7/8 shooting in Lawrence, but with Newman on him this game, I suspect he'll be far less efficient.

Feels good to be on the right side of a three point barrage for once. We played terrible on both sides of the ball in this game. Offensively, we only got to the rim 17 times and barely converted 50%. We were under 50% inside the arc, so we had to cosplay as BYU putting up more threes than twos. And we relied on our worst shooter going 7 of 10 from deep, matching the number of threes he had made in the previous 10 games combined. This was not a good gameplan, but I'm glad it worked out to the tune of 1.32 points per possession.

Defensively, we gave up 1.25 points per possession, matching the Dayton game for our worst performance of the entire season. WVU went 15 of 19 at the rim and 10 of 22 from deep, amounting to an insane 64% effective field goals. The Kriisa/Edwards PnR was working all game, as Kriisa had 7 assists and Edwards converted 7 of 8 shots.

Player of the game was Simas, posting an incredible 11.9 net points and 20.8 box plus minus. That indicates a 0.2 point per possession margin by himself. He scored 23 points from the field on only 13 shots, plus 8 for 8 from the line, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, a steal, and no fouls in 37 minutes. Day Day was of course second with 5.7 net points and 11.6 box plus minus. Jamille was the only other player with positive statistical impact.

It's tournament time. Crazy things happen. Survive and advance.
