  • Kansas outlasted Michigan St 77-69 last night at the Champions Classic in what would be considered a brick-fest. The second half opened up the offenses a little but neither team shot over 40% for the game and collectively they were around 20% from the three point line.

    • Villanova held a 12-point lead midway through the second half against MD in Brooklyn. Terp frosh forward Darik Queen went to work and led them back into the game. In the final minutes, the game went back-and-forth, with Queen and Eric Dixon of Nova pretty much the entire show. Dixon had a shot from the corner on an inbounds pass at the horn that rimmed out. MD won, 76-75.

Dixon scored more than half of the Wildcats' points (38) on 15 of 28 shooting (5 of 10 treys).

The loss dropped Nova to 3-4.

      • Dayton blew a 21 point lead in Maui and fell 92-90 to North Carolina. Despite the blown lead, UD went toe to toe with UNC. Flyers hit 14 threes.

        • Even though it is not our conference, and neither team is on our schedule, Memphis beat UCONN in overtime. Hurley is whining about the refs.

          • Local media dream of an undefeated vs undefeated Crosstown Shootout is over. X getting clobbered by Michigan at an MTE.

            • After close losses to #12 UNC and #5 Iowa State, Dayton picked off the soon to be former #2 UConn by 18 in Maui.

I wonder how much Hurley cried after that loss. Two losses in this tournament by less than well-known brands. Yes, we all know about Memphis (State) and Dayton and we know these teams to be pretty good. However, this does not look good nationally for UConn.

                  • Pitt beats OSU at the buzzer in a battle of two teams who UC scrimmaged against. OSU led most of the game, collapsed late with poor FTs and Cincy kid Evan Mahaffey twice fouling three point shooters in OT. … fun November action so far.

                    • X beat Erik Martin-led South Carolina State by only 3. If they don’t take care of the Musketeers this year, I don’t know what to say …

As tO$U learned yesterday in football, rivalry games are never a sure thing. XU will always play UC tough and make it as difficult a game as possible.

He's still crying. He's now mad that the Maui MTE was 3 games in 3 days. Didn't he schedule it? How do you get mad about that?

Right. Xavier lost 3 home games in a row prior to last season's Shootout, two of which were to Oakland and Delaware.

I feel good about our chances this season, but also know that it's a throw-the-records-out-the-window type of game - especially for our opponents.

Yes, of course. In the “modern” era of the Shootout, UC has not often had the better roster / team. So my point is that if UC is really as good as they seem, plus they are at home, this is the year to snap the losing streak.

On paper UC should beat X most of the time! It's like Ohio State playinging Michigan in football, throw out the records and the talent!
