Since we like to criticize Penny Hardway a bit around here, Hardaway fired 4 basketball assistants yesterday amid a NEW NCAA notice of allegations surrounding the Tiger basketball program. Rick Stansbury was one of the assistants let go. A new AD just came on board about 6 weeks ago and the school has acknowledge the notice.

I have questions here. How do you continue to cheat in the portal era exactly? Why can't this program ever do anything the right way? This is 3 NoAs under Hardway and I can't even count how many violations dating back to the Memphis State days.

It's hard to believe has only been coaching there for six years. e way things are looking, the new AD may have a difficult choice to either sway boosters to replace Hardaway or brace for the next NCAA investigation. As to why they cheat in the portal era; you have been to Memphis right? It is a larger metropolis in the Midwest, with all of the troubles of New York, Chicago, and L.A. They have to cheat to get kids to go to that city.

Not only did they fire these four coaches/staff, but three others left during the spring. To make matters worse, Penny has one scholarship player returning from 2023-24. He brought in ten new players, all of whom now will be coached by new guys whom they don't know. How can Hardaway cobble together a quality staff less than a month before fall practices begin?

You left out St. Louis, which is the worst of the bunch.

This is one of the things that make one go Hmmmm! How can one school / person continually keep getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar without dire consequences.

            How's that joke go ?

"Looks like Duke landed another 5 star."
"I guess we need to put Memphis on probation again."

There are several reports that the reconstituted P12 are meeting to discuss the possibility of adding up to four more schools, after already carving the heart out of the MWC. The schools mentioned are Memphis, Tulane, and two more from the MWC. Gary Parrish, cbssports.com writer, is a Memphis grad who remains living in the area. He wrote a piece today arguing that the Tigers should jump at the chance, even though everyone there wants them in the ACC. The AAC is no longer nationally relevant. Memphis is the only Top 80 preseason basketball team in the AAC per Bart Torvik. The Tigers also are the only conference member getting Top 25 votes.
