Can't do much less than Hickman, I believe someone mentioned that CJ is dealing with an ankle issue and that's why he hasn't been playing.

When isn't he dealing with an injury?

Hickman was the defensive spark today.

Out with an injury which is not his hamstring apparently.

I'll give you that his defense was good. But he barely scored and was responsible for more TO's than the 1 he was credited with.

An undersized SG needs to be capable of more than good defense. He gets pushed around rebounding, he's the worst rebounder on the team per 40 minutes (though he may have passed Simas after this game) and doesn't bring anything on offense. Might as well play Josh Reed, he defends and as a bonus rebounds too!

Simas was today's best player with 7.6 net points, leading on both sides of the ball. He was a perfect 4-4 from two, 3-6 from three, and led with 4 assists and 2 steals. Mitchell and Aziz also had good games. They had 9 dunks and converted 12 of 13 at the rim. Our centers combined for 9 offensive rebounds, which was good to see after the last several games. Betsey was the only other player with a positive statistical impact.

Reed and Jizzle had the worst games. Skillings and Hickman both struggled on offense but made up for it with solid defense. Skillings and Day Day were able to get in the lane a lot and create some assists despite struggling from the field.

The offense really picked up in the second half when we found the lob passes. We shouldn't be afraid of those when it's available. We get into trouble when our guards try to force it. But if the ballhandler can draw two defenders, the best play is to get rid of the ball as soon as the help defender commits.

HIckman had 7(!) rebounds this afternoon. The "worst rebounder" on the team doesn't do that.

I still wonder what’s going on with Ray. A four star recruit that doesn’t see the floor? Is it something in practice? Something else? I haven’t seen enough of him on the floor to form an opinion, except his stroke looks like he may be the best FT shooter on the team.

I know that we, as fans are hyped up, but why rag on our players. What I saw was a lot of effort and a win and I know that there are better teams ahead. so I am cautiously optimistic. When you consider that both both teams play 10 players which means that, during the game, there are 10 constantly moving parts, and the participants change constantly. I think that it is lot harder to coach at this level than we think.

CJ Anthony is redshirting so he can finish four years at UC then go somewhere next year to play - worth a watch (Wes postgame comment) https://x.com/meyerneil6/status/1865...429-7Zsp1zj4Tg

7 rebounds isn't too shabby. Granted it was against an undersized and worn out Howard. Let's see how his game is against X. I think the team needs him to perform well in the tough BIG12.Concerning Reed, I love his game and he is one of my favorite players along with SL.

I watched him yesterday . he didn't look to shoot but passed the ball as soon as he got it. There was a highlight while on defense. He laid the best bang on the Howard Big under the defensive board. It was great. Concerning the so called ragging, this is a forum and both good and bad play is discussed. The team breaks our hearts when things go bad. I heard Bob Trumpy once say the opposite of love wasn't hate, but nonchalance. I spoke to Pete Rose back in the early 70s and made a comment on his then two world series rings. His comment was "they are both losers". Welcome to Cincy Sports. We compete and when we are too old to physically compete, we do it vicariously in forums. You might say that is shallow, I say - so what.

Based on past years stats, he's the worst rebounder on the team. Though with this game he climbed in from the bottom spot he's held all year to in front of Simas and Day Day. Even if he was our best defender, an undersized, defensive SG is simply not a want or need, especially when we already have two non creators in Aziz and Mitchell. But he's probably not even the best undersized defender at his position (I'd argue Day Day is better and has shown it against better competition).

We saw Hickman struggle in all aspects of the game against Villanova's size to the point he was basically unplayable. If Hickman is a non-contributor on offense, we need to give up on him and start giving more minutes to developing guys who have positional size.
