Interesting, but what’s the anchor tenant? They won’t get an NBA or NHL team. So now you’re looking mainly at events to fill it up. If they want to build at West End, they really need to tie it in to a major expansion of the Convention Center. That is sorely lacking. It is dwarfed by what Indianapolis has.
As far as an anchor tenant is concerned, they certainly would make a greater profit with an NBA or NHL franchise, but (amazingly) the Cyclones have averaged about 6,000 fans per game over the past three years and over 5,000 in the years just prior to that. The rest of the revenues would come from events that presently shun the Heritage Bank Arena, ranging from concerts to sports tourneys to political conventions, to name a few.

I recall watching them play at 5/3 maybe ten years ago. . .NIT?? Anyway, I had to leave early because Dayton was laying the smack down in the second half and the "GOOOOO-Dayton FlyERS!" chant was sooo loud. It made me sad that they could create such an environment on UC's campus. Felt more like a UD home game. Their fan base is rabid. And I say that as a compliment.

This is another BIG game for UC basketball. I think this game is even bigger than the X game because Dayton is nationally ranked and X is not. Cincinnati has to keep Dayton off the free throw line. That is one of the keys for a UC win. Santos, Key, and Smith represent 56.5% of all of Dayton's free throw attempts and 56.1% of all of Dayton's free throw makes. UC has to pay close attention to the dribble drive with Key, Smith, and Alexander. Santos can drive, but 54.3% of his shots are from 3. Keep Dayton off of the free throw line.
UC has the better defense; on paper that is. Dayton has played a monster non-conference schedule (Northwestern, North Carolina, Iowa State, UConn, Marquette, and to a lesser extent UNLV). That is a serious national schedule. So, Dayton comes into the UC game battle tested. UC has superior size and a pretty good defense. Also, UC hits .503 percent of its shots. UC has weapons and advantages.
Let's hope that UC DOES NOT have an emotional hangover from the Xavier win and can play with Dayton with full effort and emotion. Let's also hope that Coach Miller has UC ready to play from the neck up. This is a BIG game. Is this a quad one for both Dayton and Cincinnati? I like UC's chances for the win tonight.Last edited by leeraymond; 12-20-2024, 11:56 PM.
