Day Day was the statistical player of the game for the first time this season. He filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in only 15 minutes. Jizzle, Mitchell, Aziz, and Page also head great games. Simas had the worst game with a negative BPM on both sides of the ball. He has been very inconsistent so far this year.

Cincinnati's intensity on defense did not decrease with this game. Grambling State is the second team this year that UC has held under 50 points. The defense, so far, this year has been very good. In 11 games on the season, NOT one team has scored over 68 points. Last year, UC gave up about 65.7 points a game. This year, UC is giving up 58 points game. I like this current UC team. This team reminds me of some of the Cronin era teams that were pretty good defensively. The level of defense this year has, quite honestly, caught me off-guard. I did NOT expect this level of defense this year.

The close-outs on the jump-shooters are much better, the hedging to cut off driving lanes are also much better, the pick-and-roll defense is better, and the overall level of energy on the defensive end is better this year. Going into the BIG XII should be an interesting experience for UC basketball.

I truly like this team's chances in the BIG XII. This UC team MAY be a lot better than people think.

Simas has shot 5/25 from 3 (20%) over his last 3 games and has only produced 4 assists. Hopefully the coaching staff helps him hunt better shots during Big 12 play and encourages him to do more with the ball in the frontcourt rather than just catch-and-shoot from NBA range.

I had the same thought watching the game yesterday: the defense is a nice (at least quasi-) surprise. This team has more talent, athleticism and depth than these eyes have seen in a while. If they can maintain cohesion and keep up the defensive intensity, this group might just be a lot of fun to watch down the stretch. Bring on conference play!

                Nice conclusion to non-conference play.

If you had to go 10-1 including some combination of 2-1 versus @Villanova, Xavier, Dayton they had essentially the best case scenario (absent a better showing in Philly and beating X more severely).

Climbed from #25 to #18 in the NET rankings this morning ... #21 on KenPom this morning, including #50 adjusted offensive efficiency and #5 adjusted efficiency. UC has not been a top 50 offense on Ken Pom since Mick's last year (and they were 28 in adjusted defensive efficiency).
