Mitchell shot the ball twice, missed both, and only 2 rebounds. How does that make sense? Jizzle 2-11, continuing to miss the shots he made last year.

James & Simas are regressing which is one issue for sure. Wes hasn’t shown any ability to coach defense is another. But the lack of poise - that was simply a full game of what we saw in the first half vs AZ. Hopefully this isn’t the breaking point for the season, but it just might be.

It doesn't make sense for Hickman to get the minutes he's had the previous 3 games, with little to no contribution!
While players like Griffith sit on the bench!
What needs to be questioned is Wes's ability to Coach! He's ability to recruit is not in question! But his ability to improve players is!!!

The numerous close losses stunk last year but the metrics were pretty solid. Getting blown out is one way to really hurt the computer numbers (fortunately didn’t get blown out by Arizona too). Good opportunity to right the ship versus Kansas but could be brutal to fall to 0-4 if they don’t. And they haven’t been good enough in 5/3. Season on the brink.

We scored 0.8 points per possession, our worst offensive showing since the 2023 American Athletic Conference Tournament.
Mitchell had the worst statistical impact with negative 7.6 net points. Zero points, zero assists, zero offensive rebounds, 4 turnovers. Just terrible. Jizzle wasn't far behind with negative 5.7 net points. 2 for 11 from the field, zero assists, 3 turnovers. Day Day has been playing much better of late, and he ended up with a positive BPM.
Skillings was the one bright spot, putting up 7 net points. He scored a very efficient 17 from the field on only 11 shots thanks to a 5 for 7 performance from deep. Aziz and Simas were the only other players with a positive statistical impact.
We went 1 for 14 from midrange in this game. I don't know what it's going to take for Wes to go away from that shot.

Another team that plays with two big body big men beat up on UC. Dillion Mitchell is NO MATCH for these types of big men. Villanova, K-State, now Baylor. It is a mistake to play Mitchell at the four when the other team has a big body four. Here is another problem; who else can play that position? Miller has too many guards and NOT enough big men that can play against big body big men. That is the one major problem when playing with a bunch of smaller big men or a bunch of wings. McKinley is missed more than I thought he would be. Even with McKinley healthy, three big men are not enough. UC probably needs to rotate 4 big men to really compete in the BIG XII. UC has two (Aziz and Page). Page has shown that he is NOT ready to play significant minutes.
We are quickly learning that what worked for UC in the non-conference will NOT work in the BIG XII. Where are Reynolds and Lakhin when you need them? Instead, UC has Page as a backup. Aziz held his own tonight although he only had 4 rebounds. It is clear that Mitchell is NOT a four. He is a rebounding three.
Where does UC go from here? What can UC do to address its problems? With Kansas on Saturday and the rest of the BIG XII coming to take UC's lunch money, what can Miller do to save the season? I suggest taking Simas and James out of the starting lineup because they are defensive liabilities, and they have lost their shooting strokes. Insert Thomas and Reed. Use Reed primarily for defense and rebounding. Thomas right now is playing better than James. Maybe bringing Simas and James off the bench may allow them to play against the other teams second stringers. That may lead to easier scoring for both of them. Right now, both of those guys are struggling on both sides of the ball.
This is a crisis situation for Miller, whether he understands it or not. UC was beat by 20 POINTS last night. Think about that for a minute. I could be wrong, but I do not think that UC has been beaten that badly since Brannen coached the team. WHAT MILLER IS DOING NO LONGER WORKS. Just as the fans can see what is happening, the officials at the University of Cincinnati can see it too. Miller is well-liked. That helps a lot. However, losses have a way of making people dislike the coach. Maybe Miller needs to surround himself with better coaching. In football, the head coach will sometimes fire the assistant coaches to buy more time and to show the administration that he / she is working to solve the problem. Miller has to do something different and do it fast.
When Cronin coached UC in the BIG EAST, he used to say that you do NOT want one loss to turn into three and four losses. UC and Miller are in the middle of a losing streak. It will get worse before it gets better. UC will probably lose the game on Saturday against Kansas if it takes the same approach that it has now. After that, Colorado is on the road then back home for two games against AZ State and Texas Tech. There is a STRONG possibility that the next time that UC plays at home after Saturday, it could be 0-5 in the BIG XII.
Miller has to do something different. Will he?Last edited by leeraymond; 01-08-2025, 03:41 AM.

well I finished watching it. Skillings shot but bad d and many tos. That was the good news except for Aziz. This is team confusion. I never would have said that UC is weak and they were bullied underneath. CWM speaks of Bearcat tradition, but all he does is rattle off names. CWM has no clue to what UC BB has been. Let's see if CWM can turn it around.

Well as disappointed as I am with the results of the last 3 games, I won't insult the players. CWM needs to change the lineup. I believe the players really like Miller because I believe he is too soft. If someone is not doing well on defense & can't score, take them out. We can't do any worse than the last 3 games. Start the second string players & maybe it will wake up the starters. Something needs to change. Thank goodness
they sell beer at the games & we have pretty cheerleaders & pretty dance team members.
