some of us older guys on here can remember denny crum's UL teams - played anybody, anywhere, anytime. might've had 8 or 9 losses by the end of the season, but they were monsters in the tournament.
i guess nowadays, that wouldn't work with the all of the "metrics". or would it? it'd be nice to see what the "metrics" would look like, for those old UL teams. just a different approach - definitely rewards SOS.Leave a comment:

UC's non-conf. schedule does nothing to prepare it for the BigXII. Why does UC play those non-competitive teams? Is it due to cost? I hope that's it and UC is not "ducking" valid competition in the pre-conf. to boost its resume. Because it hasn't worked in years to get UC to the NCAA tournament. Even when UC was in the tournament, it always had early exits. Save one final four in 1992, an elite eight appearance once or twice, and a couple of sweet sixteen appearances, UC has really been kind of a dud. Playing stiffer competition in pre-conf. might help. Who knows until you try?I’m sure this has been mentioned elsewhere but is any of our awful big 12 play symptomatic of a really poor/easy non conference schedule? Think our non conference SOS was 272. Total joke that doesn’t at all test us and get us ready to play top level competition in big 12. I think playing a tougher non conference schedule would have helped Wes better determine best rotations, schemes, etc to use against best competition as well. Playing northwest Arkansas state doesn’t do that. You don’t learn anything playing those games except thinking you’re good. X, Dayton and Nova are solid teams, but not enough to prepare for this league. I think the non conference schedule needs to get much more difficult or this is going to be rinse and repeat every year.Last edited by London 'Cat; 01-12-2025, 01:53 PM.Leave a comment:

Agree completely with austinbearcat. I'm getting tired of hearing broadcast announcers talk about our "great" 10-1 start to the season.Leave a comment:

This is beginning to look like the football season. Good start, some hope and then the season went into the toilet. I'm hoping for a turnaround but it doesn't look good at this point,Leave a comment:

Didnt UC score 11 the 2nd half against NKUHorrible offense. It's worse than Cronin's & i didn't think that was possible. Too much dribling, everyone is afraid to shoot the ball. Need to sit SImas. Need to experiment with the other players to see
who can make a basket. 15 points in the second half is embarassing.
a year or two ago ? Same coach ?

"OK, I'll reiterate my twitter post. Something is obviously wrong. Not sure if it's the locker room, coaching disconnect, NIL etc. But something is really, really wrong. I hope there's a players only meeting after this one and they get their heads on straight. No one is playing particularly well right now. The offense is apparently a damn mystery to everyone."
The last time this much dysfunction between players was displayed was during the coup attempt during Brannens last year!

Fredrick was filling in for Connor Hickman, whose injured foot kept him out.If you can't score you can't win. Bandago had 0 points although he did have 8 boards. I didn't understand Frederick getting so many minutes. I like him but he only took 4 shots and missed all of them. We needed points and he is supposed to be a shooter. This team does not seem to play well as a team. At this rate it is going to be a long year. And I can't stand to hear the boo birds in Fifth Third Arena.Leave a comment:

I was in Nashville at the Nevada tournament game and it was a devastating loss. But in the end, it was just a basketball game. The Cats are on the slide right now, but there will be some bright spots and pleasant surprises before the season’s end. There always are.Originally posted by Bearcattony00UC basketball was my whole soul and life. I physically harmed myself after the Nevada disasterLeave a comment:

We scored 0.65 points per possession. Fewer than 2 points for every 3 times we had the ball. That's our worst offensive performance in the entire Torvik database, stretching all the way back to the 2007-08 season. We scored 25 over the first 16 minutes - that's on pace for 63 over 40 minutes. Not great but ok against Kansas. Then we scored 15 points over the next 24 minutes.
Page was our best player today, putting up 4.2 net points in only 14 minutes of action. He posted a 23.3 BPM, best on either side. Skillings, Reed, and Mitchell also had positive net points, which is difficult to do when you lose by 14. We have to get that foursome playing together more. The offense was clicking when they were out there, especially for the middle 10 minutes of the first half.
I'll split the award for worst performance between Simas, Aziz, and Day Day. Each of them had negative 5 net points. Jizzle and CJ had poor games too.
The defense was good - we held Kansas to 0.88 points per possession. Rebounding was fine, our OReb rate was just a few points behind theirs. We have to find a way to score. Focusing the offense on Jizzle, Aziz, and Simas is absolutely not working against big, disciplined teams.Leave a comment:
