Without a doubt, something is seriously wrong. These players played much better last year. What I noticed is that there is no offensive plan. What plan that existed last year, if any, had turned into taking turns of individual one on one's. With all the practices that have occurred under this new coach for the last several years, it appears that an offensive system has never been developed. Even a squad of all Americans would be stymied from growth without a system. This situation is really sad.

UC basketball player development seemed to have gone backwards since last season. The team appears to not have gotten better from last year. There may be a reason why. UC has three NEW player development coaches. They either were promoted or were hired new in the summer of 2024. Also, neither one of these guys have high-major coaching experience. Two of these new coaches were with Miller at UNCG. The other guy was with Dollar at South Florida. Additionally, all of these coaches appear to be rather young in age. Go to UC's roster and check it out.

Well, if not the HC or AD, then it must be a player(s) or an Asst Coach. What is your theory?

That was the worse performance by a UC basketball team since the Tony Yates era. No enthusiasm by players. No wholesale changes by the coach. With 2 minutes left in the game we are dribbling the ball at the top of the key & not being aggressive to score. We are regressing as a team. Wow what the heck do we do to salvage the season. 😢

The team is just not very good. They don't pass the ball well and are sloppy. They miss too many layups. They take bad shots. Aziz does not score unless he is under the basket and wide open for layup. I think we are in for 2-3 years of a basketball desert at UC. Most of these kids will be in the transfer portal as soon as it is open.

No, the worst was when they quit against Houston, and Brannen went straight to the locker room at the end, leaving his players to go through the handshake line without him. I believe that was Brannen’s last game.

Bright spot. Ray is 7-7 on FTs this year.

But, of course according to coaches he can't shoot straight.

                        • I don't think it can wait til the off season. This season is obviously lost. Between the lethargic football energy and the disaster that tried to pass itself off as a b12 contender something needs to be handled now or were right back to where we were 4 years ago.

Would be nice to hear from Terry Nelson. I feel like he would know what is going on behind the scenes. I feel like he has grown very frustrated as well. It projects through the radio broadcast.

                            • We put up 0.8 points per possession. Terrible yet again. The defense was fine, holding WVU to 1.02 points per possession on a night when they shot 50% from three. That should be good enough to win, especially at home. Offense is where the core problem lies. It was nice to see a change to the starting 5, but going with the two PG lineup is not an improvement.

Is everyone ready for this? Our best player tonight was Rayvon Griffith. Despite playing just 12 minutes he led our team with 3.3 net points. An efficient 7 points with 2 assists, and he led our team with a 7.1 defensive BPM. Betsey was second best, followed by Day Day, Skillings, and Reed. The best 5 was Day Day and a bunch of wings. Why not give that a try?

Jizzle was our worst player by far, with negative 8.2 net points. He went 0 for 8 from the floor and had 3 turnovers with just 1 assist. And he was our worst defender. That all adds up to a negative 25.3 BPM. Aziz, Simas, and Page also had bad games.

I don't think effort is even a third of the problem. We won the rebounding battle. But we don't run an offensive scheme that generates clean catch and shoot looks. Better effort will not help with that. Blaming effort is just a lazy way for the coach to deflect from his own scheme failures. Wes is responsible for the style of play. He continues to run an offense that coaches learned how to stop 10 years ago. The game has evolved and left him behind.

                              • The ironic thing about this night in particular, during the halftime of tonight's game Terry nelson was one one with Dan Skillings. DS said that he wouldn't play for anyone else, that he and Wes is on the same page, and that he could call Wes at any time of day or night. Meanwhile he himself is in a three game no show while his team crashes and burns.
