We executed my keys to the game almost to perfection. We let Allete shoot, and he went just 6 for 18 from the field. We shut down Reynolds, holding him to just 8 points on 15 shots. And we outscored TCU by 12 at the free throw line, accounting for the entire margin of victory. We attacked on offense, getting to the rim 28 times with only 13 midrange shots, resulting in 1.15 points per possession.
Mitchell was our best player with 5.5 net points, going 4 for 5 at the rim and a perfect 4 for 4 at the line with 13 rebounds. Reed was next best with 4.1 net points, scoring a 13 points on a perfect shooting performance - 5 for 5 from the field and 2 for 2 at the line. Aziz was just behind with 3.9 net points, leading in defensive BPM and scoring an efficient 7 points. Skillings was just behind Aziz in defensive BPM, leading to positive net points.
Fredrick had the worst game with negative 2.6 net points. He missed a three and turned the ball over with no other contributions in 8 minutes. Betsey was next worst, as his interior work couldn't make up for an 0 for 4 performance from three and a negative defensive BPM.
Jizzle and Day Day ended up with slightly negative net points. They got to the rim 10 times combined but went just 2 for 12 from three.

I commented earlier that I thought Mitchell looked very active today. I don't a thing about Sedz numbers, but they do seem to bear out that this was his best effort in a while. And it may have something to do with his not having to concentrate so much on defending the inside scorer from the opposition. His overall performance today is what we have been anticipating since he came here. Congrats to him. It's well deserved. And to Reed. If they continue to give this kid some pt. to boost his confidence I think he can become a very important piece other than a defensive stopper

The team played well on both sides of the ball today. UC's defense in the first half held TCU to just 31.3% shooting. Both teams shot the ball well in the second half (both teams shot 50% or better). The difference in the game was at the free throw line. UC went 15-17 and TCU went 3-4.
I am assuming that this was a Quad 2 win. Is that about right? Also, when Simas comes back, what happens to Josh Reed? Reed has really given this team a boost. Good for Reed. He is one of the older guys on the team and it is good to see Reed helping the team to win.

Since Thomas has been in the starting lineup UC has gone 4-3. One of the things that the coaching staff should pay attention to is the turnovers between Thomas and James. Over the last seven games (since Thomas has been in the starting lineup), Thomas and James have combined to turn the ball over 32 times. That is an average of about 4.57 turnovers a game. They have had a high of 7 turnovers (Iowa State) and a low of 1 (WV in Morgantown). They have had 4 games where they have turned the ball over 5 or more times.
UC got the win yesterday even though James and Thomas had 5 turnovers combined. At one point late in the second half, UC had 3 consecutive turnovers, where Thomas was involved in all of them (2 were his). If UC is going have any type of chance at a post-season, the starting guards need to take better care of the ball
