This game had 72 possessions, making it the second fastest pace in conference after UCF. Which means the defense wasn't quite as bad as 78 points would appear, but also the offense was terrible yet again as we scored under a point per possession.

I know I'm a broken record, but we yet again took more midrange shots than rim attempts. In what has become a pattern, midrange is the only spot on the floor we outscored our opponent. I hate it. Oklahoma St got to the rim 30 times today, so our defensive scheme was bad too.

Skillings was our best player again with 3.1 net points. Despite 3 turnovers and zero rebounds, he was 5 for 5 at the rim and added 4 assists, 2 steals, and a solid 4+ BPM on both sides of the ball. Aziz was second best thanks to a perfect 4-4 from the field, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Mitchell had a positive game thanks to his offense, which is rare. He was 2 for 4 from the field with 4 assists and 4 offensive rebounds but a negative defensive BPM. Betsey was also on the positive side because he made his lone three.

Jizzle was our worst player with negative 3.5 net points, needing 21 shots to score just 14 points from the field. He also had 3 turnovers and a negative BPM on both sides of the ball. Simas was next worst, also posting negative BPM on both sides of the ball. These were supposed to be our top players and they can't produce efficiently on offense or defense. Reed and Day Day played good defense but even worse offense.

Mitchell doesn't play hard enough to be worth the price tag, I don't care how good of an athlete he is. I want effort above all else and Mitchell doesn't bring it.

Jizzle I don't think you need two PG's and I'd rather keep Day Day, wouldn't mind it if he comes back cheap and in a backup role.
I forgot by Griffith. He is just a redshirt freshman. He had some good shooting moments in some of the nonconference games. I would give him another look as well. Griffith appears as though he really wants to play for UC.

At least I'll have Clemson and UCLA to root for in the NCAA tournament.

Miller has got to be deadly serious with the transfers that he brings into the program. No more one-dimensional guys. Find guys that can play on both sides of the ball. His career will depend on it. One last thought. Remember, it took Cronin five years to get to the NCAAs. Next year will be Miller's fifth. Let's hope for the best.
I will defend Wes a little. It seemed to me that he was hampered in is first two season by having to play DeJulius and Adams-Woods, who weren't his guys, but whom he owed for sticking with the program after it fell apart. He was loyal to them. Then all of a sudden you go from a conference where this years team would have been talented enough to compete (AAC) to what is just a monster conference. UC at best is going to be a Baylor/Iowa St/K-State in the Big 12 Kansas and Arizona and Houston (at least with Sampson) are just going to get better recruits year in and year out. I think Betsey and Page are both capable players. They are young, they will be stronger and better in a year. To me, Page looks like he wants to play in the low post and he has the size to do it. I didn't see him enough this year to tell if he has the skills. But again, is Wes just being loyal to Simon and Aziz? I guess at least on paper after the Baylor game, they were theoretically playing for an NCAA bid. (These last two debacles crashed that hope). But I would have liked to have seen more PT for these young guys (especially since Aziz has no offensive skills in the paint).

Basically I'm saying on paper, a front line of Betsey/Page/Mitchell with JJ and Day/Day does not seem that bad to me to start with. But it definitely has to run some kind of offense. Then when you bring in some players to replace Frederick and Hickman, bring in the Red-shirted guy...Griffith. Betsey/Page/Griffith were all pretty highly ranked guys coming out of HS. I guarantee you that Bob Huggins could put that five on the floor and win some games with them.

To me, this year's team was just lacking any front line players. I love Aziz but he was not Big 12 skill level. Simon clearly was not. I can't criticize the Jizzle and Day Day show because I saw no sign any other player on the team was going to play in the paint at all. I think Mitchell is a wing player and was really meant to be in SL spot on the floor.

I'm thinking next year is the year to evaluate Wes, not this year.
