    Basketball Transfer Portal '25

I'm just getting ahead of the spring window opening here. Don't panic! Yet.

I see at least (2) UC Players hitting the Portal day, possibly (3) total.

I don't know. A The players were talking about what they need to do in the offseason to improve. I think the players like Wes. Portal exits are inevitable but I don't think it will be as bad as we all think.

Chad Brendel listed his educated guesses (in addition to Aziz, Simas & Fredrick, who are moving on)

          Likely gone: Betsey, Page, Skillings

          50-50: Griffith, Jizzle, Mitchell, Reed

More likely to stay (but no guarantees): Thomas, McKinley, Hickman (with waiver)

          No clue: Dzellat

If the worst happens here, we’ll be last place in the Big 12 next year, that will be it for Wes, and I’ll not renew long time season tickets. Maybe I’m just nostalgic, but I hope everybody stays. It’s just not the game I’ve watched my whole life,

Just how life in college sports is, half the roster entering the transfer portal is the norm nowadays. I hope we keep the bench guys who have been developing, Reed, Griffith, McKinley, Dzellat, even Thomas. Just something nostalgic about watching hard working guys start out on the bench and develop into contributors.

Money will probably get in the way of Jizzle or Skillings staying as I don't think either should be guaranteed a starting spot or the money that comes with it, they'll probably find that elsewhere though.

I’ve seen so many guys finally put it together in their Jr. or Sr. years, it would be a shame to see that happen with Jizzle or Skillings, or Betsey, after their gone.

Safe to say Skillings didn’t put it together as a Junior

Curious about the possibility of Skillings leaving. How much of it would be he got paid a lot this year and didn’t develop and may not be a good fit versus how much fans probably ripped him this season on social media and such.

I think the injury to DS caused a lot of his problems this year. He finally became more active at the end of the season.

I think most of Skillings leaving would be money. Can he convince our coaching staff to take another chance on him, gamble that he'll be a high level starter and pay him NIL like he will be? Probably not. Can he convince another team to do so, maybe one with enough money that they are more willing to gamble? I'd guess so. Jizzle is pretty much in the same boat as Skillings too.

I'd love to see multi-year deals, with buyouts (for both the players and teams), similar to the contracts coaches are currently given. It would prevent players or teams from moving on, but it would provide more stability. A player would have to be moving up (and get a corresponding pay increase) for it to be worth breaking the contract and leaving.

Something to make closer to the stability we used to have.

We got virtually everyone back this year and what good did it do us? There's no one on this team who can't be replaced, probably with someone better.

John Newman and Vic could have sure helped this year.
