    Dayton 11/11 7:00 ESPN+

The Flyers escaped at home today, 77-71 over UMBC. The Retrievers had the lead midway in the 2nd half & had chances down the stretch. In the final minute, with UD up, 73-71, UMBC failed to corral two defensive boards & UD finished them off with FT's.

The Flyers played about as well as the Cats did last night. Sloppy. The Retrievers were short-handed with injuries.

Bart Torvik projects that we'll win 74-66. It's the type of game where we can easily win by 10+ points off the strength of our home court and talent advantage, but if we look anywhere near as disjointed as we did against Georgia St then that can spell trouble. We did a great job of slowing Bennett down in last year's game and will need to make him our #1 priority on Tuesday.

Dayton has some eligibility/gambling issues going on. I don't think they're at full strength at the moment.

There were a few indictments handed out a few weeks ago against some pro and college people. It tied into a gambling ring allegedly tied to the mob. It was around point shaving.

I'll take any W, but after the sloppy performance on Friday would be nice to get a convincing win versus the Flyers.

KenPom #s (which mean little after a week) have UC 40th and Dayton 60th.

Dayton's top scorers so far are Javon Bennett, Amae L'Etang and De'Shayne Montgomery. The first two scored a combined 6 points in 32 mins last year versus UC, while the latter is a transfer from Georgia.

Keonte Jones is the player I'm most worried about after Bennett. He was their best overall player against UMBC. 12 points, 5-5 FG (2-2 3FG), 5 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 turnover. Very efficient. He was 1st team All-Big West last season so he has experience being the #1 guy. Just needs to fully find his footing playing at a slightly higher level.

Seems McKinley has earned Was's trust, first guy off the bench along with Harris (who I don't really count as a bench guy since he's essentially a 6th starter).

Harris looks like the old celtic Satch Sanders-- not in the face but the way he bends as he defends

I know we're only (3) games into the season. But, this team looks more like a TEAM than the product that was on the floor at any given time last year!

                            And so far, better defensively!
