Chad B. reported that CWN has closed the practices especially to one Terry Nelson. So much for his wanting all former Cats to come back. CWM says he does post game interviews because it is in his contract, well Terry is the color man and going to practices help. Of course, Terry did say that the current crop of cats were stupid in BB knowledge (low BB IQ ) and they can't win being so dumb. I guess that reflects on the HC and his assistants. Terry is not just the color man but the leading voice of the BB alums. This can't be good. Seems like there is much friction. Will Pino listen to the alums? Will the money men who pampered the alums in the past listen now? Will Oscar or Kenyon speak? We know C. Blount is. Lots of problems in Clifton and I can only imagine if the losses pile up and the play gets even worse. CWM can only quiet the crowd by performing a team transformation. A blow out win tonight is a start, but they better blow them out.

Terry Nelson had been spot on when critizing Wes! Same with critizing his players which are a reflection of teams Coaches.

UC won this game without leading for a single second.

John Groce knows how to run an offense. I would love to hire that guy.

But, I would love nothing more than to see this team gel and reach the NCAA. As I said last night, the last time I booed these guys was the Presbyterian game in 2011, but they made the Sweet 16 that year. Keeping hope alive.
The problem for me.... Wes Took over a mess from Brannen. I thought he did a decent job hobbling together a team on the fly. Then they went Big 12 and I knew that they didn't have a Big 12 quality lineup. so i cut him a lot slack. Last year it seemed obvious to me...lacked the size and depth and sorry but Day-Day and Jizzle are not big enough/ quick enough to scare most of the Big 12 (there are a lot of future NBA guard talent in the Big 12).

This year Wes seemed to bring in a team, I was kind of impressed. If it gelled they would be a tourney team. But reality is, we are not looking like we are top 12 in the Big 12. And the one thing that I think back on over Wes's years here....I can't think of a single player who improved under Wes's coaching. Like Skillings....Shon Abeav...he is as good as he is going to be right now. (I would think you could teach the guy to not jump sideways when he is chucking that horrible looking 3 point shot.) ****... Viktor Lakhin got worse playing for Wes.

I always had hope that Wes was going to get the talent and make UC competitive, but I'm over that.

Maybe reach out to this guy for a surprise announcement in March. Remember the last best coach we had came from Akron.

What about bringing back Andy Kennedy as head coach when Wes gets let go? He just celebrated his 400th career win and has been doing pretty well at UAB.

that ship may have sailed, when he had his uber / cab incident downtown.

A father vs son crosstown shootout would be cool.

I wanted Rick right before we hired Brannen, but everyone felt he had too much baggage. I think most of us would take him in a heartbeat now.

If I remember correctly, he did a great job with
Xavier big men in his stint with them.

I'm sure Huggins would come back in a heartbeat... and probably a lot cheaper than Wes! Not everyone would embrace it but I think most of us would... include in his contract a full time personal assistant (aka full time driver)

Let's see, Byington succeeds Stackhouse at Vanderbilt -win.
White goes to Georgia, so Florida hires Golden - win.
Pitino to St. Johns - win.

Seems to me that hiring a good head coach isn't some impossible task.

Jarrod Calhoun. That is the coach that UC should go after. Calhoun is currently coaching at Utah State. He has been there for two years. His record is 26-8 (first year and he made the NCAAs). His current year (2nd year), he is 10-1. Overall, at Utah State, he is 36-9. Calhoun plays tough defense with scoring prowess. Currently, USU scores about 85.9 points a game and gives up about 66.7 a game. That ain't bad.

I have seen Utah State play and if it played UC right now, it would win the game. Utah State routinely employs full court traps, it double-teams in the post, and in general plays winning basketball.

Here is the most interesting thing about Jerrod Calhoun. He was an assistant under Huggins when Huggins was at Cincinnati and West Virginia (in different roles). His defense, in some cases, reminds me of the early pressing and trapping teams that Huggins had when he was at UC.

Here is another fun fact about Calhoun: he is a UC grad, and he is 44 years old. If I am UC, this is the guy that I am trying to get to replace Miller. He coached at Youngstown State before Utah State and he knows what UC basketball is all about. Look him up for yourself.

                                Enough said.
