Baba does not have a jump shot. It seems strange that a player of his caliber does not have some type of jumper. The jump shot is one of the basic tools used by basketball players at the high school level and higher. Not having a jump shot could hurt his draft status. Also, Baba needs to improve his one-on-one defense.Originally posted by BearKatz View Post
Baba has first round pick all over him!
With that said, Baba has a very high up-side, I think. I am sure some pro scouts from somewhere are evaluating the pros and cons of having Baba work out for them.
Baba is a good basketball player. He needs to develop a jump shot.Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; 12-29-2025, 10:16 PM.

I like Babas potential and is easily one of the best athletes on the team. Plus he has some bball skills but with no jump shot to speak of Leeraymond, he needs to be more assertive in and around the paint. Even if he dont score he could obtain alot of fouls. He seems to be apprehensive in traffic even though he has good ball handling skills. But that's my opinion.

I didn’t get to see this one, but 1.23 points per possession is promising. Got to the rim 31 times. Only 8 turnovers. Dominated the glass. Held Asman scoreless inside the arc.
Kriisa was our best player with 7.3 net points, going 5 of 8 from deep with 2 assists and NO TURNOVERS! Jizzle was just behind with 6.8 net points, scoring 16 on only 11 shots with 5 assists, 2 steals, and just 1 turnover. Baba Miller had 6.4 net points. He struggled shooting, scoring just 10 from the field on 15 shots and turned it over twice, but he had 7 assists, a monster 21 boards, and 2 blocks. Day Day, Thiam, and Dzellat also had positive impact on the scoring margin.
Abaev had the worst game with negative 6.4 net points, going 0 for 6 from the field with no assists and a negative DBPM. He was the worst player on both sides of the ball. Harris, Celestine, and Tillery were close to neutral on the negative side.

If we're a better team with Kriisa coming off the bench then so be it. It looks to me that if Abaev was so highly rated coming in that the college game is overwhelming him. CWM needs to slow the roll with his development. We're going to see how this new lineup will fare with Houston Saturday.

I have a cautious attitude towards Houston. While they defeated a pretty good team last night, UH will have great defense and the constant pressure offense, Are the Cats ready? I don't know. I am glad for JJ's development, but how will he handle the pressure. CWM said we would need Tillery come January, Jan is here but Tillery isn't ready. He is nervous while running the point and too quick to pass backwards instead of attacking and passing inside. To his credit he attacked once as the game went on and had an encouraging pick and roll for 2 with Frenchy. I agree that Abaev didn't seem to handle his benching except for one spark. He came close to stealing the ball during transition. He hasn't given up and that is a good sign. I will call Buck Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Harris. To start the game, he was making good passes and playing defense, then he started playing out of control. To start the second he played great defense, ran the court, got easy scores and set the tempo. That was till the called to by Liscomb. Then more out of control, then seated and then some good play. We will see what Kerr does against the Cougar defense -- open 3s and no TOs ???????? Yes the game was a draw in the second but it was a win for the Cats. They gave pt experience to Tillery at the point and really worked on their transition defense. This would be necessary against Houston. Overall -- CATS WIN CATS WIN --- Take them when you get them.Originally posted by Rufus View PostIf we're a better team with Kriisa coming off the bench then so be it. I feel sorry Abaev. He's trying but his shots are not falling. This is where a good coach comes in. CWM should talk to him & tell him to start going to the basket more for his shots & start taking the 10-15 ft jump shots.
Hopefully he finds his groove & starts playing better. We need him!

I couldn't agree more. Abaev needs to continue coming off the bench until he learns to work within what little structure we have. His penchant for jacking up (and missing) 3's will kill them in close games which is all they will have going forward. With his size he should be able to help the team a lot more in other ways. Yes, Miller should tell him to attack the basket, rebound, and play solid defense as a path to more playing time. There's is no reason for Miller to play guys that don't help him win now regardless of NIL and booster demands. It won't matter if he satisfies others but still doesn't win any games. He'll be gone.Originally posted by bearcatjd View PostI feel sorry Abaev. He's trying but his shots are not falling. This is where a good coach comes in. commercials pay the networks and they pay the conferences. Ain't no going back. That is why outside of live UC bb games where we discuss it in real time here, I record the games and fast forward through the commercials.Originally posted by DesertFog View PostThe very long time outs are most annoying. Isn't there an NCAA rule re number of time outs and duration? There should be!

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. He is paid to be an effective basketball player. He is not meeting that expectation. To date, he has not demonstrated that he can make 3s so he needs to adapt. He hasn’t thus far so I agree with the decision to sit him.Originally posted by bearcatjd View PostI feel sorry Abaev. He's trying but his shots are not falling. This is where a good coach comes in. what London Cat said ----- CWM needs to work with him to make him a player worthy of being a Bearcat. Sometimes that is forgotten and look at the record to back that up.Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post
