Day Day broke out of his slump in a big way, hitting 7 of 11 from deep. We made 14 threes overall and dominated the glass and the turnover battle. 1.27 points per possession.
Day Day was by far the best player in the game with a whopping 11.3 net points and 24.4 BPM. Point forward Baba Miller was next best with 7.2 net points. He had 8 assists and no turnovers. Our offense is much better being run through our best player. Thiam was third best, pulling down a monster 15 rebounds and converting 9 of 13 inside the arc.
Tillery was our worst player. Only 5 points on 9 shots with 3 turnovers. Harris was next worst, held scoreless with 2 fouls in 10 minutes. Celestine was third worst, scoring a middling 8 points on 8 shots but with only 1 rebound in 23 minutes.

I am in agreement with you. One of the big problems with Coach Miller's UC teams is that when it shoots under 40%, it rarely wins. The old UC teams under Huggins and Cronin understood that sometimes teams have to know how to win when they have bad shooting nights. Cronin had a few UC teams that had problems scoring, but they still won plenty of games. Miller has not reached that point in his coaching development where he can win games when his teams have bad scoring nights. When Miller's UC teams shoot under 40%, they typically lose. When all shots go in, it is a good game. The problem is that the next game, those shots will not go in but the team will keep shooting. This was a great win against a short-handed OSU team. Can the Cats win the next two games to make it into the NCAA? That is what they will have to do because of their bad losses along the way.
UC plays again on Tuesday against BYU. Let's see if UC can put together another good scoring game. BYU is going to be an angry team coming into Tuesday's game because West Virginia beat them in Morgantown yesterday.
I hope that UC understands that Robert Wright and Dybantsa are the players to slow down on Tuesday. Here is hoping for the UC win.Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; 03-01-2026, 01:07 PM.Leave a comment:

That is a fair argument. But like you mentioned, will the NCAA Tournament buy it? Also, regardless of the UC injuries, UC lost ALL four of its non-conference high-major games. UC did not run much of its offense through the big men early on. Kriisa and Abaev received many of the shot opportunities early on. It was a mistake on Miller's part not to run more of the offense through the bigs early in the season.
In my opinion, with just my eyes and without any stats to back this up, not running more of the offense through the big men early in the season may have really hurt UC's Tournament chances this year. UC's bigs truly are the strength of the team.
By the way, Baba Miller reminds me of a taller and more offensively aggressive Ben Simmons. What do you all think?Leave a comment:

UC didn’t buy the jacket. The guy who did actually helped lots of kids in the Cincinnati area. Our friends at Miami(OH) reported the gift accusing the buyer as a UC booster, but he wasn’t. UC was later cleared and NCAA said Thompson could play at UC, but he was already enrolled at Texas. The guy who bought the jacket was well known in Cincinnati, but now I can’t remember his name.Leave a comment:

Realistically, the ‘Cats won’t make the NCAA Tournament unless it wins the BigXII tournament. It might be nice to imagine, but that’s the only way it happens. They have made a nice run the last six games but I don’t think it’s enough to save CWM’s job. The only questions are will UC make the decision to move on when the season concludes and what will the buyout be at that time,Leave a comment:

UC in a 3 way tie with WVU and BYU for 8th place at 8-8. BYU went 0-2 this week (including a loss to WVU today) and heads to Cincy next. BYU looking like less of a big resume game than a week ago. 9-7 TCU on the road to cap off the regular season. An 8/9 team would presumably need to go through Arizona if it wanted to make a B12 run.Leave a comment:

That EMU loss still stings, but we did play that game without Baba, Jizzle, and Celestine.Leave a comment:

To be fair, Jizzle wasn't on the team and Celestine was recovering from a major back injury. Just have to hope the committee buys that argument. What if UC played this way at the beginning of the season? UC's bigs are really opening some eyes. Baba Miller is an amazing basketball player. He is 6'11" and moves like a guard. Thiam has a really good mid-range turn around jump shot. However, he is very lazy on the defensive end.
Somehow, I get the feeling that these outstanding performances by UC basketball are all-for-nothing. UC's non-conference 0-4 record against high-major teams will NOT be overlooked by the NCAA Tournament Committee. That is too bad because UC might be able to make some noise in the Tourney. Can we say NIT again?
Keep on playing to win UC. You never know what can happen. Keep on playing to win.Leave a comment:

How does everyone here explain the Jekyll and Hyde performances of Wes Millers' teams? Preparation. Chemistry. Individual dispositions?Leave a comment:
