    2026-27 Staff and Roster

A new thread to discuss the addition of new coaches and staff, plus eventual roster additions and perhaps player retention.

We'll get some more info later today about who is coming over from Utah State -- Calhoun didn't arrive at Lunken solo last night, and there are some tweets out there with people identifying some of his staff that are here.

@GoBearcatsMBB on social media has posted some pics from this morning, one of which showed Calhoun chatting with Mike Rehfeldt

His short interview with Mo Egger mentioned "prices are high at the beginning and late in the portal, so we like to do our work in the middle". Something to note if we don't see a flurry of action early on (except maybe a body or two coming from Utah State).

do you think that might change with UC having more NIL than USU, Perhaps a splash at the beginning to get an ace. It would be a great start.

Maybe. Hopefully. He also mentioned how he only wants guys who want to put on a Cincinnati jersey, and aren't doing it just for the money. So if we do get an early splashy signing, must be a guy who is excited to be a bearcat.

The good news is they have a coach in place already (and the portal doesn't open until two weeks after the hire was announced) -- Brannen and Miller were both hired mid-April and they were playing catch up, among other issues.

cCJC definitely seems to have a plan, like, maybe, he knows what he's doing - i'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, if we don't hear any "big" news for a while.

While the portal isn't open (officially), the wheeling and dealing is well along its way. Agents have been in contact with school representatives for weeks. Tampering is rampant. A large portion of players who will contact their compliance departments on or shortly after 4/7/26 to announce their intentions to leave already have deals in place elsewhere.

That sounds like an NFL team I know.

And we already know how that works out.

I don’t believe Baba has any eligibility left in college. But one college team signed a former G-league player so maybe eligibility is not a factor anymore.

Baba Miller is showing up as a second rounder on most 2026 mock drafts -- he won't be on the 26-27 Bearcat roster regardless

Could he make more money next year in the NCAA or as a second round draft pick? I doubt he'll be back here regardless. But wouldn't be that surprised to see him making 3+ million on a blue blood and not in the NBA.
