    American 11/2 7:00 ESPN+

It's American University not the American Conference. (You knew that).

The Eagles finished 5th in the Patriot League last year. With no stats to go on and no idea how much their roster turned over, I can't really analyze them at all.

Here's last year stats. It looks Like Greg Jones and Matt Mayock are the best returning starters

American was picked to win the Patriot League off the strength of returning 85% of their minutes from last season and 87% of their scoring. They lost an exhibition game at NJIT 71 to 66 two weeks ago. Madden Collins, a 6'5 sophomore wing who came off the bench last season, is their best returning player by most metrics. The American team preview on their athletics website said that Mayock could miss the season opener after suffering an injury NJIT.

From what I have heard from the coaching staff, and the play of the team over the summer and preseason, I like this team. I checked out a Calhoun press conference yesterday. He comes across as a man of authority; like a no-nonsense dad type. His persona is very different from Miller's. I like it.

Based on the numbers from the preseason, there are two things that concern me about this team: rebounding and keeping the opponent off of the free-throw line. This team fouls a lot. During the preseason, UC has put the opponent on the free-throw line an average of 29 times a game. The opponents made an average of 18 free-throws a game. UC has gotten to the line 18 times a game with 11.6 makes. Also, they only out rebounded teams by 2 during the preseason where the opponents pulled down 12 offensive rebounds to UC's 10.6 a game.

I know the preseason is different from the regular season. However, some behaviors do not just go away. We will see.

I am very enthusiastic about this team. This team should win a lot of games, including its share of big games.

They call it the game preview. It is not much.

Feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve been so excited for a new season on hoops. As others have stated, can’t wait to see what this new era looks like.

                  Go Cats!
