WVU close to leaving for Big 12

    Agree. At this point, the conference has lost the team that has been perceived as head and shoulders above the rest...
    The AQ status, even IF they can add Boise St., is in jeopardy. I saw an article last week (can't remember which one now) that said, basically, if the BCS bowl committees wanted, they could recommend not giving AQ status to a conference. And if the perception was that WVU was the team that brought credibility (what little bit the Big East has), the calls for the Big East to lose it's AQ status are going to get louder and louder. If the Bowl committees listen to public opinion at all, that could spell really bad news for the Big East and the teams associated with it...

      if the bowl committees listened to public opinion there would be no BCS system period

        The bowl committess are there to determine who the bowls take from the available pool of teams. There are teams they "have" to take, thus the AQ status of a conference or eligibility of a team that has played their way to a certain ranking in the BCS system. They have no say in what conferences are what.
