  • Temple Apparently Joining For 2012

Numerous sources are stating that BE and Temple are in discussions for the Owls to leave the MAC immediately after this school year for football and leave the A10 for all other sports, probably at some later date because of contractual agreements.

Good move. Should have been brought back in before now. I bet Villanova is a little POed but let's face it, the whole Villanova FB dance was a huge waste of time and cost us 2-3 league members in Pitt, Syracuse and possibly WVU.

I'm guessing Temple is coming at a lot cheaper price than Boise would have for next year. I guess we'll be road trippin' to Philly next year.

Key word is apparently. I've seen this on other sites and I would hold your breath until the BE office announces it officially. Sounds like a desperate but necessary move on the BE's part to fill WVU's schedule gap.

Another article. Hope it doesn't tee Boise and SDSU off. I would think those two would want another western team.

I dont know what other decent western team the BE could after. They made a hard push for both AF and BYU.

I can think of a few like Fresno St., San Jose St. and UNLV but they don't have the following of a BYU or AF.

More chatter by the news sources:

Sources have confirmed reports that the conference could be looking to add the Owls. And chances are it might happen sooner than later, perhaps even within a week.

A-10 sources indicated the fee for leaving that conference right now would be roughly $1.5 million, and "a lot less" if the exit took place a year after Temple gave notice of its intentions. Sources have said that the Big East might be willing to help Temple deal with those issues.

The merger of Conference-USA and the Mountain West also is interested in the Owls.

The Temple Owls were booted from the Big East just eight years ago, landing in the MAC in football and Atlantic 10 in all else. They've been talking to recruits for almost a year about making a return for the 2012 season, which looks like it's going to happen.

This guy knows a lot about Temple football. I am thinking the BE schedule and the Temple announcement will go hand in hand. I truly believe Temple football will be in the BE in 2012.

Temple to meet, could accept Big East invite
Temple University’s Board of Trustees will meet via conference call Wednesday afternoon to discuss the fate of the school’s athletic program and perhaps accept an invitation to become a member of the Big East Conference in all sports.

                        03/01/2012 Update
The Temple board of trustees didn't vote on accepting a possible future offer to join the Big East during Wednesday's conference call meeting, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

However, one source said the group did discuss how it would pay any fees needed to exit its present conferences.

According to a Big East source, the Owls are on the agenda "as a possible vote on a new member" to join the league in 2012. That would take care of urgent football-scheduling needs for the conference.
