East Carolina joining Big East in all sports; Tulsa likely next

All 19 East Carolina sports on move
East Carolina will join the soon-to-be-renamed Big East as an all-sports member, instead of just for football as originally planned.

East Carolina had already been set to join Cincinnati, Connecticut, South Florida and the rest of the Big East football schools in 2014. But with the recent split of the football and basketball schools, the football side is giving up the name Big East and needed to add more members for all sports.

Commissioner Mike Aresco called East Carolina "a valuable addition" in a statement announcing the move Wednesday.

All ECU sports to compete in to-be-renamed Big East in 2014-15
The release said that in 2014, the conference will consist of East Carolina, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Memphis, Southern Methodist, South Florida, Temple and Tulane. ESPN reported Tuesday that current Conference USA member Tulsa is expected to be invited to join the league.

Moving On Up: Hurricane's Shift To Big East A No-Brainer
In this case, if reports are accurate, TU's decision to leave the crumbling pile of rubble that is Conference USA for the artist formerly known as the Big East is the right move for the Golden Hurricane.

The soon-to-be renamed league will now have 11 schools, nine of which used to reside in Conference USA. Tulsa, East Carolina, Tulane, Cincinnati, South Florida, UCF, Houston, SMU and Memphis all spent time in C-USA, while only Temple and UConn did not.

Funny thing- all that money that the University and we spent, in upgrading everything, and here we are, right back to playing in Conference USA again. Literally. You can change the names, but the conference is still the same.

Only it costs me much more to watch these teams now than it did when Rick Minter was coaching.

Actually they took their basketball team out when we exited. Charlotte is now joining for all sports including football. They're building an on campus stadium, and will be playing in 2014.
