Conference Tournament Location

Not sure if anyone saw McMurphy talking to Aresco last week about possible conference tournament locations. Aresco said the most important factor was selling out the tournament and they were currently looking at Hartford, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Dallas, and Orlando among others.

I was bored and looked up the midpoint with all 10 teams considered and it is a little south of Nashville. If they are worried about selling it out, they need to consider which fans are most likely to travel to the tournament.

I think Memphis would make the most sense if they wanted a permanent spot, but I honestly wouldn't mind a rotation like the old CUSA tournament.

Given those those locations I'd rotate it. Although AAC in Dallas and FedEx Forum in Memphis would be the best arenas, There's no way I'm giving Memphis home court advantage every year. SMU doesn't play at AAC.

From experience AAC is very nice inside, large and they fly two flights a day direct from CVG to DFW. Columbus, Cleveland, Indy folks could fly Southwest into Love Field. Of course I'm slightly biased since I live here.

Yeah I wouldn't want Memphis to have home court advantage either, but I think it makes sense based on the location, city atmosphere, and arena. Most conferences have a set location just like the New York schools having an advantage in MSG.

I would rather them just do a rotation, though.

I don't believe any school should have a permanent home-court advantage. Move it around. Then, once UC moves out, the Conference-To-Be-Named-Later can do whatever they want.

The NCAA is not going to be happy about the league scheduling in a casino. They don't like gambling.

I think here or Memphis would be best for next year with Louisville still in the league. Cards fans would pack either venue as would Memphis and Cincinnati fans. I wouldn't give it to Louisville since they are leaving after next season.

Whit said it won't be in Cincinnati. There are too many conflicts with US Bank arena during championship week.

I think it should be at a neutral location that changes each year. Like the Big 10 does with the United Center and Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

They have no problems with the Pac-12 having their tournament in the MGM Grand, or the WAC and the WCC at the Orleans. Both of those places have sports books, which the Mohegan Sun does not. During the WAC and PAC-12 games they actually take bets on the games inside those casinos. The Orleans agreed to not take WCC bets or sell alcohol in the arena during that tournament due to the wishes of the conference.
