I find it interesting that the moderators here complain about people posting links to other UC sites (deemed as advertising), but have no problem linking those same sites on the front page...

I see no problem. I don't want to see the forum flooded with links to pay sites. I'd rather have the moderators control it. I do have a lot of frustration with links on the recruiting page that lead to pay sites. For most of us, that's just putting dead links on here.
Why not put a short summary of what was in the article. Information cannot be copyrighted, only how you express it. So, as long as you don't cut and paste, telling us what's on a pay site is fair game. -
The problem with that is the people who bring that information need to be paid in order for them to spend the time doing that. If they don't get paid, they have no reason to do the work they do, then the information flow goes away for everyone. Personally, I think the way Mike does it is right.Comment

The information flow would never stop. There was plenty of real recruiting news for free before pay sites were invented. There's quite a bit now from real journalists. Check out the Louisville C-J sometime.
Besides, the pay sites are just repackaged rumors and non-information with tantalizing headlines. Oh well, there's a sucker born every minute, but why put dead links on a recruiting site?

I actually enjoy it. They typically have a short paragraph that explains the article. It at least gives you information that there has been some sort of recruiting update.-SlM-Comment

All Rivals and Scout links are pay site links. If you don't subscribe, you will not get the full article. I was under the assumption that was general knowledge. Are their folks that think otherwise?
And to clarify, the initial post was about posting pay links on the main BearcatNews home page, not the recruiting pages for individual players.
And to further clarify, we've been doing it this way for a long time and this is the first complaint.Mike In Clifton

Just to clarify, I'm not complaining about the links, I just think it is hypocritical to tell people not to post links in the forums but you guys do it on the front page. I subscribe to Rivals and get all the info in those articles, and appreciate the work that those guys do (as well as you for collecting all the info you do).Comment

pay sites
Since the pay site issue seems to periodically come up (right now with the BK articles), I am wondering if you could use and approach like Yahoo finance does, when linking to a pay article, put $ in the title. Something like:
Sitting Down with BK, Part III ($)
That way people know and if they complain about it, well, it just indicates their stupidity to me. Adding the $ should not be terribly time consuming, right? You do have to type in the header I presume.Comment
