The only way I see this happening is if the Big 12 really wanted a subset of BE schools (say UL, UC and WVU for example) and those schools said we aren't going without the rest. However, even this scenario is completely ludicrous given the lack of loyalty in college sports today.

Of course, I would really like this to be true.

      Here's why you do it.
      • Texas vs. Rutgers in the Meadowlands
      • OU vs Rutgers in the Meadowlands
      • The Big East Tourny in MSG is the envy of all other conferences and is a huge media event.
      • For Texas and OU it will be the opportunity to tap into the lucrative northeast television markets. To expand your recruiting base into the Northeast, Midwest and Florida.

The other conferences would hate this. My question is why wouldn't you do it.

Always in conference realignment take it FWIW, but this sounds plausible.

Mizzu is the 1st pick for SEC. WVU is in if Mizzu declines. I really hope Mizzu goes if the WVU/UofL/UC thing is true. I like the rivalry, but according to this article Mizzu will stay in the B12.

there is an intersting article on the bball section on this big 12 deal with frank martin, kstate coach. he brings up lvl and wv but leaves uc out. i suspect it's a huggins camp jab. discusses hoping that they play in front of all packed houses, etc. slow down frank, kstate is not quite a world beater yet.

I don't know if it'll matter or not, but the city of Cincinnati will likely become a 2 BCS basketball school town-- with XU being invited to join the Big East and UC joining the Big 12.

Is it really a relevant comparison when they don't even have a football program?

                Not in the least.

What does basketball have to do with the BCS....nothing.

If Xavier gets an invite to the Big East, there will not be any football playing schools left, so the BE will not be a BCS conference.
Our goal is for someone to be asked, what's the best program in the nation? And the answer be: Cincinnati.-Mick Cronin

The Bowl Championship Series has nothing to do with college basketball. When was the last time a BB team played in a bowl game?

They'll probably add Butler and maybe even Dayton too. At which point I will become jealous of their basketball. And it may become more difficult to recruit against them (their building is better...)

Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler) is an AMAZING place to watch a college basketball game. Its historic, a great atmosphere, and you literally feel like you are on the court with the players. Its equivelent to watching a baseball game at wrigley or fenway.

Come to think of it, I like Hinkle for the same reasons i like Nippert so much.

Hinkle is a great place, but it is like Wrigley Field when it comes to amenities which most fans consider when grading such a facility. Haven't been there for a few years so they may have upgraded/updated it.

                                They have not upgraded.

It is a great place to watch a game.

If you want to go for the concourses or the concessions, just stay home.

But you cannot have a better atmosphere for a basketball game.

And you can add this...there are always tickets available at game time for a team that played in the National Championship Game.
