    Brian Kelly Rumor

    From Lance's site...

Footballscoop.com: Michigan- Our sources say that Brian Kelly will be named HC if the interview doesn't turn off the Woman President

I know nothing about this site. Any credibility here?

Note - If the response is something along the lines of "I have never heard of this site, therefore they can't be credible" - please save your time by not responding. This in itself is not a credible response.

Simply put...does anyone KNOW if he has an interview scheduled? I found UC's official press release yesterday to be odd. Why would you need to say that you would have no comment if there was no story. I could definitely imagine a scenario where Kelly told Thomas he was going to interview...and so Thomas issued the press release to let everyone know the official comment would be "no comment".

You would think if there was anything behind this they might take the time to write down the university president's name instead of "the woman president".

I think he's too good of a match for Michigan. He'd fire up the fans, his offense would present major problems for OSU (see Florida). I don't know, maybe that's my red and black-colored glasses speaking.

When Rodriguez was going to go to Alabama, and Schiano flirted with whomever, their AD's had the resources to step up spending big time. We're just not there yet. Too much debt.

It's just a perfect storm. I really don't think there are 3 jobs Kelly would leave for, and Michigan is one of them. You're talking about the winningest program of all time that hasn't hired an outsider in 40 years. If it happens, it's just terrible luck for us, that's all.

Personally, I like Mike Thomas a lot. He was overwhelmed by the Huggins situation, but everything he's done since then has been spot-on. I think he's had replacements lined up since the day Kelly was hired. We're GOING to get a good coach. Mark my words.

If it happens, stick around and stay excited. This is a 5+ year process, to build a program that can recruit and keep coaches like Kelly. UC is a relative infant in regards to being a player in College Football. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I still don't think the spread offense is what Michigan is looking for. They like Big 10-style football up there in Ann Arbor, and I just don't think they'll want to risk completely changing their system.

Heh, they like beating Ohio State up there. And Ohio State looked ridiculous against Illinois and Florida.

Watch: if OSU plays WVU, they'll lose. Tressel hasn't figured out the spread.

Did anybody hear the journalist from Ann Arbor (or Detroit) on Alan Cutler's show this morning? He said he didn't' think there was any way Kelly would be hired because of an incident while he was the coach at Central Michigan. Allegedly, some of his players killed someone in a bar fight. The journalist said that Kelly made some comments after the incident that led to his apology to the university. He went on to say that Michigan is a very PC campus and that there would be a huge uproar if Kelly were hired. The university would not take a chance on this type of PR nightmare. He mentioned that the comments were perceived by many as being racially insensitive. It might be why he's so diplomatic about everything he has said since becoming UC's head coach.

              FWIW:

              http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/foot..._no_conta.html

and...If you research the comments (not saying you haven't) and read them in context of his interview, they were not really an issue or, in my opinion, inappropriate. He was speaking specifically to the situation and the players involved, not a race.

Basically there were some of his players who didn't want to cooperate with the police investigation. Kelly basically said they didn't want to talk because they were African American and from an urban enviornment and it was engrained into them because of where they were from that you don't talk to the cops.

Had he left the words African American out and just said it was because they were from an urban enviornment, he would have been fine. Some felt he was being racist because he mentioned their skin color.

That's the 2nd time I've heard that guy from Michigan talk about that on the radio--I think he's a beat writer for one of the papers in Ann Arbor. He also said he believed that Les Miles was still the top candidate, for what that's worth.

And nothing against BK, because I really like him and would prefer he stay, but what has he really proven in a D-1 top conference that would lead him to one of the most storied programs in NCAA Football history? He's done great things in 1 year at UC, mostly with Dantonio's recruits....

The admin may not want that, but the fans do. They see the college football landscape passing them by and the don't want to be left behind.

If you go to the Ann Arbor newspaper web site that covers the Wolverines, it mentions the following:
                        • Current Michigan assistants are now interviewing
                        • Rumor about Grand Valley State AD being contacted about Coach Kelly is not true

There is no mention of Coach Kelly interviewing with Michigan. So, I suspect that the report below on Lance's site may be one of those infamous, "anonymous sources close to the program" rumors.

Really what he has done on the field is not that spectacular. We lost to the same 3 Big East teams as last year and had a way easier OOC schedule this year. He got the benefit of an easy OOC schedule and was able to make a run and get ranked.

What he has done, and why we love him so much, has been the off the field stuff, and getting butts in the seats. These are things Michigan does not need, as they already cram 110,000 in their stadium every week.

I want to preface that I am not an OSU fan. Jim Tressel went from a Division 1-AA school in Youngstown State before becoming the head coach of one of countries strongest college football traditions because he's a proven winner. Kelly has more experience than Tressel had at the D-1 level and is a proven winner. The experience theory as to why Kelly wouldn't be considered doesn't work for me...

Sounds like Carr has a lot of say in this process. I just can't see Kelly being a Lloyd Carr type of guy.

But, honestly, if they want to beat OSU, they should go with Kelly.
