National Signing Day

Reminder that we have an early signing day for the first time this year. Starts on Dec 20 through the 22nd. Fire up the Christmas Fax and Deck the Halls in Red and Black. The more people we sign early the better. Less poaching from other schools.

The more and more I think about this, the happier it makes me. Not sure it would make a difference on our top guys, who seem locked and ready to go, but it may provide some security to our position on players that are out of state and still being courted by new to the table P5 programs.

I like that it locks in recruits but I hate that's it's so close to the coaching carousel moves. I think the timing is bad for the players. If a coach leaves or a staff dissolves in the weeks before the bowl you've got guys who may not be able to visit the new coach before the early signing day. We are currently in this situation at one position after Willie Martinez left this week.

As a school you've got to rush to get guys on staff if anyone leaves so that someone's in place at the various position coaching jobs. I'm going to put money down that we lose a recruit to UCF before the late signing day due to the coaching change that took place. You hope they commit to the school and not the coach but the reality is that that doesn't always happen.
