  • Cincinnati vs Texas Tech (09/28/24)

Red Raider here! Looking forward to the 2024 football season and the new Big 12 format. I can answer any questions about the 2024 Texas Tech Football team and can give recommendations for anyone planning on attending this game at Jones AT&T Stadium!

    Quick Overview:
Weather: It'll be a hot one if this is a daytime day. Lubbock is the definition of "Texas Weather". It gets to 105+ in the summer and can drop down to the low 20's with snow in the winter. Lubbock is also a very windy city which plays a factor in the passing and kicking game.
Offense: Texas Tech brings back one of the best RBs in the country (Tahj Brooks). Texas Tech also retained Elite 11/4 Star QB Behren Morton who will be a RS Junior. Tech completely revamped their OL and brought in multiple new P4 pass catchers from the portal.
Defense: Texas Tech lost a lot of key super seniors on the defense. However, this will be the first year you will see a lot of McGuire's highly thought of recruits hit the field. This defense will be talented and fast, but they will also be very young.
Stadium: The $250M+ renovations to the south endzone will be completed by August 31st for kickoff. Along with the recent renovations from last season (larger video board, new sound system, new turf, and upgraded internet).

Welcome, Cactus. Thanks for the information.

I guess the best way to put it regarding the Bearcats is that the program is in flux. Last season's 3-9 record was the worst since 1998. The roster has been turned over dramatically and we're not sure what to expect.

HC Scott Safferfield is a run-first coach, utilizing outside zone principles. The Cats were #6 nationally in rushing last year, but couldn't throw the ball at all. The prior QB locked onto target #1, then either held the ball too long or bolted. The receivers, outside of Xzavier Henderson, seldom got open. Enter IN transfer QB Brendan Sorsby, who started the final six games for the Hoosiers. He's from Lake Dallas HS in Corinth,TX. Also, outside of Henderson, virtually the entire WR room has been replaced, as has been the secondary, which were torched repeatedly for chunk yardage.

Oh, the Aussie punter, Mason Fletcher, is outstanding.

Your guess is as good as mine as to how 2024 will go.

Thanks for the rundown! Sounds like Cincy and Tech both did revamping on the offensive side of the ball.

With Tech's easy schedule, this team is capable of going 10-3 (including a bowl win). Tech has some serious talent and speed at WR and possibly the best TE room in the nation. Along with a highly recruited QB and Tahj Brooks carrying the ball. HOWEVER, Texas Tech has not had their QB1 finish the entire season since Mahomes was here. Year one and two for OC Zach Kittley and HC Joey McGuire, Tech had to play 3 different QBs due to injuries. If Behren Morton goes down this could be similar to last year, fighting for a bowl game. I'd set the ceiling at 10-3 and the floor at 7-6 for this Red Raider team.

Texas Tech also got them an Aussie punter! It'll be a cool storyline when they face off this season!

Yeah well, we have TWO Aussie punters and they're the Fletcher brothers. They look alike and are both about 6'7. The younger Fletcher, Max, punted at Arkansas last year and is taking a redshirt year while the older brother, Mason, finishes up his eligibility this season. I'm betting all 3 Aussies came from Pro-Kick Australia and might have some common ground there beyond country.

I'd echo what others have been posted. We have no idea what we've got this year. The aim is to be bowl eligible this season after a bad year. Anything better than a minor bowl is a bonus IMO.

Quick question: Are both fan bases a united front in our general dislike of Tommy T?
