Could you provide a quick summary?

Regardless, what was done is done and my hope would be for money to be given to buy out the contract if major improvements are not seen the rest of the season. If the team doesn't win 6 games and if the contract is honored (after Jan. 1) then we have to live with it. If the choice is made, I can see waiting to Jan. 1. By then Satt will know and early talks with the future HC might be made in secret. Lots of legal stuff involved, but money does address that too.
My apologies, I actually meant to quote the person who asked who the mystery donor was. Not sure how I managed to reply to you instead. All that said, I agree with everything you have written here.

I will add, as much as everyone claims he pushed for Satterfield, it still doesn't explain the contract Cunnigham gave to him.
Sorry for dancing around the name for so long everyone. I wasn't trying to be mysterious and was protecting myself a bit.

This is correct and I agree with you on the contract MDW79 . I think we boxed ourselves in on the hire and lost all leverage on the contract.

My mantra again: Supporters support . Donors donate.. administrators administrate, players play etc. etc.

I've never met Larry Sheakley personally so I can't comment on his football knowledge and it's hard for me to say he got out of his lane considering all the other great things he's done that are positives for the program. The optics are that he may have gotten got out of his lane on this hire and probably changed the course of the program. Maybe that was an issue and everyone was afraid to tell him he was out of his lane?

HIndsight is 20/20. None of of us have any idea where we'd be if we'd gone another direction and this is out of our control. I think the best path forward is try and make the best of what we've got. Maybe the future isn't doom and gloom and things will pick up and we'll look stupid.

or we have a great building for use in future recruiting. Heck maybe more.

Oh definitely. That's why I didn't want to knock the guy. His donations are transformative.

Heck Nippert Stadium was named for James Gamble Nippert. It goes way back. His Grandpa gave the funds to finish the stadium and add many things. Did he interfere or was it a lasting tribute to a loved one. It was over 100 years ago, but some things stay the same.

i think that, with any coaching hire, there are very few "locks" - even early nick saban, etc. to some extent, its a crapshoot. plus, when a popular coach like CLF leaves, the next guy is going to have to deal with disruptions, and, right or wrong, comparisons to the last guy. foten times, its a no win situation. CSS ain't going anywhere for at least a year or two. If he fails, the program is set even further back. So, lets hope he can get it going again.

not to take this too far down the rabbit hole - just a genuine question from someone that doesn't live in that world...running on the assumption this backstory is accurate, what's the benefit for the donor to get Satterfield hired? Does the donor and Satterfield have a close relationship and he has a need to do Satterfield a favor? what's there for the donor to gain? no judgment - that's how life is sometimes. i'm just struggling to reconcile a donor threatening to pull $$$ for a football coach without a benefit for himself - directly or indirectly

Ego. It’s the biggest obstacle to clear thinking, even greater than $.

Very happy with 'Cats today v. Houston - has the ship been righted?

Just want to mention that when a replacement search for CLF was being conducted I mentioned Chadwell (currently at Liberty) and (at the time) Holy Cross coach Chesney now at JMU. What Chesney did at Holy Cross (small enrollment institution) was amazing.

When Cignetti left JMU for Indiana he took the best players with him, JMU also lost a ton of 5th and 6th year seniors and grad transfers. I think Chesney brought in over 50 new players - today JMU is currently undefeated and obliterating UNC at Chapel Hill. He is young and no P4 experience, but I wonder if say, Florida, would have the sack to hire him? I think UC missed the boat.

I really want to say yes and I think the real answer, we can't tell yet. We've beaten an FCS team at home , a meh Miami team away and a bad Houston team at home . Pitt is TBD but a 1 point loss to them looks ok so far.

per RedditCFB this is Satterfield's first win against an FBS opponent in Nippert.

Also per the FOX broadcast, we have trailed for all of 17 seconds this season.

But, unfortunately, it was the last 17 seconds of a game.
