CTT was on a two part series this week on what NIL and the portal have done to college FB. He actually came off pretty well, and had some good insight.
Some of the points the story made:
1. QB Ewers from Texas has free use of a private jet, to go home whenever he wants.
2. The "haves" spend 8 times what the "have nots" spend to recruit the best players. Texas spent the most, and O$U was a close second. The Big 10 and the SEC spend more than all other conferences combined.
3. CTT said that unless changes are made, college football will forever be changed and ruined.
4. Many big schools partner with big businesses to form "collectives" to raise money. Would be like UC partnering with Krogers.
5. 2000 players have entered the portal this year.
6.. CTT feels players should get paid, but that there should be a limit (sort of like a salary cap) for each school, to keep some sort of parity.
Overall, a very good story, which supports the idea that NIL and the portal will ruin the game for schools like UC unless changes are made. Apparently, congress is looking into doing something, which probably means nothing will be done.

fwiw, i was curious, and ckecked 247 for both UC's and Miami's portal ranking. I may have misread it, but looks like UC's portal class is still rated higher than Miami's. So, at least (hopefully) UC is still running a ahead of the redskins

Red... I honestly doubt Miami, who pays their HC $750K per year, outbid us for some of these players. I submit to you that UC, with CSS and all the campus crime issues, is simply not a place many young athletes (and their parents), want to come to. I am no Miami fan, but walk around their campus (at any hour), and do the same at UC, and see where your common sense tells you where to go.Originally posted by red_n_black_attack View Post
Then you will need stop your whining when Miami outbids us. You cannot whine about something for which you will not take action to correct. You get the winner you invest in. Unlike the Reds, you cannot blame ownership because the ownership on this is with us.

Will continue to buy tickets, but asking alum to pay salaries for teenage athletes is something I refuse to do. This is only going to get worse, if we "feed" into it now.

I suggest you should get used to having other schools outbid UC then. It’s your right not to contribute. But this is the reality of college football now.Originally posted by Bearcat Chris View Post

Excellent read and a great reason I am on a campaign for every Bearcat fan to donate monthly to cincyreigns. Any repeating contribution will increase our chances to outbid Miami, Florida and Oxford.

I will also add the Cincinnati Zoo has a lot of sponsors that I saw during the Festival of Lights.Originally posted by bearcatbret View Post
Part of the problem with the Cincinnati market is that you have the pro teams to contend with and xu to worry about. It is like Michael Jordan said when asked why he never endorses candidates, the response is because everyone buys his gear. I know that xu gave up their football program but they do still have a b-ball team.

And for profit companies are not going to be the first to step up. If those companies see commitment from a school’s alumni/boosters/supporters they will pay more attention. It starts with us as individuals. Until the corporate board members see that type of commitment, it will remain the status quo in their investments. I do think UC is making progress in this area. But being so far behind in its development of alumni and booster support, it needs time to catch up to others.Originally posted by red_n_black_attack View Post
For profit companies are not gonna give money away if there isn't a return on investion, generally 5-7%

I admit to not being perfect but I least try and look things up first when I have time, which I did before I posted my response. If you 'd like sources let me knowOriginally posted by bearcat1518 View Post
gonna make a claim like this, then prove it. Otherwise you’re just as bad. As admin, you should know better.Last edited by Lobot; 12-26-2024, 04:29 PM.

Also, assuming someone’s Family net worth because of where they are from is poor taste.Originally posted by bearcat1518 View Post
