UC caught a break with 20 seconds left in the first half. In my opinion, that was a BC TD which would have changed the dynamics of this game. The offensive line had not been able to dominate the line as projected. At 5:59, there was an interception but it was called roughing the passer.

Well, just a minute ago, the snap went over the BC QB's head and he just turned and threw the ball away. There were no receivers on the play but the officials called it a good play and BC scored on the next play. If that was not a make up call, I do not know what would be. The officials are now taking control of the game or at least directing it. The radio announcers said that it was a deliberate intentional downing which would have been loss of down and the 20 yards that would have been lost.

It is a win. I am not sure what the total passing yards were but I think it was about 40 yards. The defense looked good at times and at other times it looked like the bend but don't break model that we are to accustom to. I am not overly concerned about the performance, after all, there are a lot of new faces on the team. UC was a 7 point favorite and they methodically destroyed that. Special teams were by far the best unit on the team today.

That was the 2nd time BC was involed in intentonal grounding and neither was called.

Let's face it, Boston College is not a good team. The win tonight is good but we may not have learned a whole lot about it. The Bearcats have to improve to beat good teams. There was no passing game tonight and that may be by design. The heat was a factor and maybe the goal was to just wear BC down by running the ball down the mid.

I remain concerned that the receivers cannot create separation from their defenders. That was quite apparent against BC. French threw for 77 yards on 14 attempts (10 completions). Receivers need to be open for a QB to complete a pass. They weren’t open often enough today.

I think the play was overall inconsistent with the defense being less inconsistent than the offensive. With the running threat we have, the play action pass should get us far more yards than what it did against BC. I also didn't think the play calling was very good. The next three games will tell us what kind of season we are in for.

Bottom line, UC struggled in the first half agianst a bad team. BC was 2-10 last year and is picked to finish near the bottom of the ACC again. No passing game, and our WRs get little to no separation. Will have a better idea against KSU if we don't lose to WCU next week. Hard to tell just how improved the defense is from last year.

I think the defense was pretty solid. The big plays that BC did have were a function of the defensive scheme. They threw it in windows that are soft spots. LB corps was light outs all day.

I'd like to see more from the passing game as I think most of us would. I'm not worried at all about our run game. We have the line and the backs to run it all game if we need to.

Special Teams were a mixed bag. The fake punt was a great call at a time where the crowd was not happy. Have to give credit to Satt for calling that at that very moment. We muffed a punt (2?) and got it back.



Officiating observations for those who didn't get the benefit of replay in the stadium:

-The BC touchdown they wiped off the board was absolutely a TD. He caught the ball, took two steps, tucked the ball and got it punched out into the end zone and fell on it.

-Tengesdahl got punched and they caught him retaliating and only flagged him. BC player should have been ejected.

-The targeting call was iffy. He didn't hit him in the head but did spear him in the chest and might have launched if you watch the replay.

The D forced 2 turnovers yesterday. Last year it took them until the 4th game of the season to get their 1st turnover & 6th game of the season to get their 2nd.
