Why not give other people a chance to be matching donors on smaller levels? Why not set up better donation pages, enable personal donation pages, etc? I think this press release is a great start, but it's a match when we need a forest fire. Give us all the tools we need to make this happen.

In the Enquirer article in June of this year, after Kelly got his new contract, the article quoted Thomas as saying UC had two thirds of the $9 million needed. Now it is listed as $14.5 million.

Why the 50% increase in the last three months? Is this what is meant as raising the bar?

Seriously, why the new higher number in less than 3 months?
"We probably had too many guys last year and it caused a lot of confusion," Cronin said.
"I watched the film and it was even worse than I said in the post-game," Cronin said.
“I don’t know how you couldn’t have optimism,” Cronin said.

The project was probably recosted. And, as you can see from the drawings, the project was expanded so that we'll now also have the best lacrosse facility in the Big East as well. Pretty awesome.

That said, the 9 million is probably the amount for just the bubble and the fields (and whatever prep work is necessary). So, we're really close to actually getting going on the core components of the plan.

Those core components, as Dan Hoard mentioned and UCats has been saying, are set to begin construction on December 1st.

I was going to say, why not start on the two practice fields as phase one? The bubble will be on the 100-yard field from late Nov. to late Feb. The company building the bubble will most likely be a different contractor anyway. There is no reason to not start with the two fields. Heck, all of the amenities (stands, meeting rooms, entry way gate from Jefferson, etc.) could also be built by a third contractor. You could make this into a three phase/contract construction project and get that bubble by 2010 just in time to train for the NC.

Don't you mean the second (back to back) NC?

And I agree with you - start now and get the fields completed.

right now the plan is for all of it to be done by september 2010. the only bowl game that suffers is this year, and we all know tony likes the snow anyway.

this is heartening to read. i really like the momentum of this program right now. this stuff should have been attended to YEARS ago, but atleast progress is being made. Hopefully they don't cut corners in a tough economy.

                    Nice article.

With the size of our alumni base this amount should not be hard to raise.

UC marketing will make or break this campaign. They must spend money to make money, and this means mass mailings, advertisements and harrassing phone calls.

                    Get it done!

Is there anyway we can get a personal guarantee that Kelly will stay around until a certain date? If he jumps ship so will many donors and recent fans....

The phone calls can come from the non-revenue sport athletes. UC has phone pledge campaigns every year for regular scholarships from regular students. The student-athletes that will benefit from these facilities should do the phone calls.

That's the thing...we need to make the alumni realize that this is a donation to our alma mater and not Coach Kelly. Even if coach leaves, there is no reason why we can't continue to be a great program! We need these facilities to be the great program we all want to be!
