The NC Game Might Have Kept BK Here

So obvious, I'm sure this has been mentioned, but if he was preparing for a NC game, he wouldn't be interviewing now for ND. AND ND probably would have to pick someone else. They can't wait 'til January. Indeed, what a difference a second makes. If he leaves, not only would almost the entire coaching staff be gone, but I suspect some significant players and recruits. I don't even want to think about it.

I think we got a shot still with Kelly.

If he leaves. We will be posting a nice job.

Who would want to coach a 2 time BCS conference champion with a loaded team next year that could start in the top 10??

Oh and you get 2 million a year and you get to coach the Sugar Bowl.

The best post i've ready about the BK situation...from another bearcat board....

Well, I guess we won't have a choice, will we?

Why bend over backward to defend a morally indefensible position?

Kelly has no business even talking to Notre Dame. If your wife/girlfriend signs up for AdultFriendFinder she has cheated on you whether or not she ever sleeps with someone. We have done everything that Kelly has asked. Kelly was a hearbeat from the national championship game in just year 3. Kelly has told us that he is a person who understands that there is more to life than money, but then it turns out that for him it's really the money.

I believe you are too close to the situation to see it objectively. You have worked with Coach Kelly and you like him, so your natural inclination is to defend him to validate your feelings of closeness.

But, probably it's our fault for ever thinking UC can get out this self-perpetuating hole.

We get criticized for not attending games, for not traveling, for not etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

But we can't even keep a good coach for 3 full seasons without getting him poached. And then these flipping pundits have the nerve to criticize us for not being good enough fans?

        Grrrrrrr.

Just woke up from my sleep this morning at 5 am and I never was able to return to my sleep because of this. Anyway, I am wondering why Mike Thomas has been so silent lately on BK's current situation. Stanford's athletic director already spoke to the media that Harbaugh will not be interviewing with Notre Dame today. Does it mean he is doing something to keep him at Stanford? I see the sign that MT has done anything he can to keep BK at UC, but he had some of the limitation on keeping him. Was it the UC administration that is keeping MT from liberalizing something to keep BK as the next year's HC?

After 54 pages...here are a couple things I have not yet heard. (Merely offering different perspectives)

            - Perhaps, just maybe, he is doing his best attempt at politics... Just maybe, he made it public that he was interviewing - to make sure he fully had the attention of the UC donors, so he can come out later and publically "turn down" the job - because he thinks UC gives a better chance to win NC's more quickly. Perhaps, just maybe, this is his way of helping to kick-start the donors into getting to the "next level" because he really is committed to building something special here...and this his best leverage to help that effort. (3 years ago, he challenged the media...now he is challenging donors???)

            - I have to be honest...just before Mardy's kick-off return in the first half, I was sitting in Heinz Field with feelings I had not had since I was sitting in Miami watching VT run the ball all over UC...and I had to wonder - maybe BK was the best man for raising UC to the next level...and he may not be the best man to get them over the top. Of course, this is a silly thought now that they are undefeated...but just coming clean. As much as I am thankful for what BK has done....It does drive me crazy to see UC incapable of (a) running the ball when they have to; and (b) stopping the run.

            - I don't disagree with other poster's thoughts here...again, merely trying to offer new thoughts to the discussion.

It is very possible that BK is trying to leverage with UC on this situation. Hopefully, he is doing on his purpose so that he may stay at UC. I have no problem with that since UC needs to do something to improve its athlete programs like football and basketball.

Skip Holtz would be okay, but again does he bring the fire and passion, not too mention the ability to get donors, local recruits and unite a very large community in Cincinnati? Maybe he does, IDK?

I am not sure there is a coach like BK out there, that is why people want him. I can only say that I do agree with others who say if he does leave we do need to think a little bigger, finding lighning in a bottle doesn't happen often. I do like Butch Jones, Kevin Sumlin, Al Golden and others...but. Maybe we should also look at someone like Jerry Moore and let him retire here in 5 years while another head coach is groomed under his wings, ala Florida State? Just a thought.

Again, I continually go back to looking at the likes of a Chris Peterson, I know everyone says he won't leave Boise...but why not take a shot? He has proven that he can make a prgram like Boise successful, get donors via their "stock" like buy in, and unite a community (given it is only Boise, Idaho). He is younger and has won at this level...without a BCS affiliation and not a strong conference. I am sure all of that must frustrate him. Why not go after someone that people think would never leave? I do like that Bobby Hauck as a coach (he wins and wins and brings lots of fire), but he may be way too unpolished and has his BS with the media and school newpaper, shame. How about Jerry Fedora or Dan Mullen? Better yet, why not take a run at the likes of Steve Spurrier, Butch Davis or Mike Stoops?

I do believe in MT, that he will hire the right guy. I am with most everyone else here in saying that I hope and pray BK does not leave, but if he does let's hope MT has a short list and makes this process quick and painless and we go to NO and beat us some Gators!

Anyone with other ideas of very talented possible coaching candidates for UC, IF needed? I hope we keep and/or improve our offensive ingenuity and improve greatly on D.

                Go CATS!

Actually don't think that post is very applicable at all. College football is more of a business than a marriage.

I would like to see the current Central Michigan head coach get a look. We need to run the spread offense.

Its only a marriage when BK wants a practice facility or a raise. Then he reminds us all about how he is in love with the city and wants to be here forever and wants to make it a destination job. When Notre Dame calls, its a business.

WE need the practice facilities whether he is here or not. The same stuff over and over. He has set us up to carry on UC Football and succeed one way or the other. I still feel that he stays and carries it out, and that will be his decision, not Notre Dames. Let's all relax a bit........

Whether we need it or not doesn't change how he was in love with the city and wanted to be here forever when he was trying get get money for it.

And he would be here 2-3 years and then when Rodriguez gets fired Jones would go to Michigan.

UC needs to find a coach that will stay and end the revolving door problem.

Coach Kelly will end the revolving door. I know it is our right as fans to speculate, and that is part of the fun(I guess), but I believe Kelly will make Cincinnati a destination job in the next 2 days.
