Coach Kelly Situation

[Thegreatone]

Has BK signed a 6 year deal that people are talking about?? Anyone heard this?

Did anybody of you check the main BN website stating that BK is staying? Not sure if this is genuine one.

Yeah it is really misleading. It's just rehashing Mardy's comments from last week.

Personally, I think the truth is what we all know inside: it's All BK, All the Time. Marriage when he needs something, business when he's on the way out, great analogy.

I hope, hope, hope MT doesn't fall into this manipulative trap. I would hope that the reason we haven't heard much about a contract extension for BK here is that MT is smart enough NOT to get into a bidding war with himself, meaning that he knows BK is hedging his bets by pushing for an extension this year. If he doesn't get the ND job, Thomas has just upped his pay unnecessarily. This year was supposed to be about building facilities, remember? If he does get the ND job, well then he gets the ND job and he ain't staying even if we lined his offices with gold.

I have no problem with paying the guy more, but I have a feeling, and Thomas probably knows this, that just like when we matched Michigan State's offer when Dantonio left, Kelly wouldn't take it. He's not passing up ND, and he's made that clear in his preemptive strike: "It would take a special opportunity to get me to leave UC." Gee, like what?

Not to mention, MT would have then openly played his hand for the next coach in, in terms of what he's willing to pay for salary, etc. No, I'm happy to not be hearing much of anything about a contract extension from the administration side. Let's see where this ND thing goes. Kelly will try to play the "they didn't try to keep me" card, but that's just a public play for empathy and to get out of town easier. He's out of here if he's offered ND, period. Thomas is (hopefully) quite strategic for playing this close to the vest.

Being a transplanted Cincinnatian living in the Chicago area the past 5 years, I am amazed at the number of Notre Dame fans here who only association with Notre Dame is being Catholic and growing up in Chicago area. What a fan base, but also comes with it a tremendous amount of pressure to win. I don't think this will happen, but for BK's sake, if he takes the job, he doesn't end up like the last Catholic Cincinnati coach to be the head coach of Notre Dame. That was a disaster. Hail Mary's don't win football games. Star players do.

The Peter Principle at work.

Well I know this thread is setting traffic records for the site, and I knwo the admins want all the Kelly stuff Centralized her BUT (sorry admins).....I'm going to start 3 more threads.

1) A thread that should only have actual information. i.e. Brian Kelly to stay at UC or Brian Kelly to go to ND etc. Only facts no ranting raving name calling.

2) A thread for individual opinions on the situation for those that feel completely betrayed and have already written Kelly off regardless of final facts. Rant and name call away (I wont read this one after I create it)

3) A thread for individual opinions on the situation for those that have not yet jumped to any conclusions, will reserved judgment until the facts are final, and even if he leaves will still be thankful.

Thanks CincyBeerCo. This thread has gotten quite large and very difficult to read so I am going to close it. Please use one of the other recently opened threads to continue this discussion. And please keep these other threads on topic.
