Like always, I encourage the posters on this board to take ownership of their university's marching band. If you have comments or feedback (positive or negative) about the band, please let Dr. Frenz know. It's easy enough to piss and moan and complain on a message board, but it's easy to write a quick email, too.

      This.

UC fans and the UC Administration need to create their own traditions. That includes "new traditional" routines for the band, "new traditional" songs to be played at Nippert, "new traditional" cheers from the student section.

You can give it a patriotic name, but it still sucks.

I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw the tuba players hamming it up on their way in to dot the i's.

There is no need to copy OSU. I think it makes UC look silly. UC is big enough to stand on its own, and if it wants to do that, the comparison and the silly stuff *Buckeye State shirts, dotting i's, etc) needs to stop.

I don't like OSU as much as the next UC fan, but yesterday's antics were way over the top and not necessary.

It was obviously done in a mocking sort of way. That being said, it made me cringe a little when they did it. We all hate being called little brother, but then we do something like that which was very much a little brother sort of move.
Our goal is for someone to be asked, what's the best program in the nation? And the answer be: Cincinnati.-Mick Cronin

Hey guys relax, once again it was done to make fun of ohio state, which I personally think it got the point across. Go back and listen to the first 2 wlw commercials, that is why we did it. Its over, we all loved it, and what I took from the fans at Nippert they loved it too.

On to traditions I feel that we have one of the greatest traditions in running down the steps, Creating the C paw and the rotation of the box. Other than that there isn't much. I would love to have someone email Doc with ideas. Thanks guys.

So let me get this straight. tOSU owns the patent and the sole rights to SPELL OUT THE NAME OF THEIR SCHOOL OR SOME PORTION THEREOF??? Nobody else has the right to have their band spell out their school name??? Gimme a break!!! What a joke.

I think you misses his point... EVERYONE knows that OSU is known for "dotting the i" .. When the UC band does the same thing, it is lame and unoriginal... Let OSU have its tradition; we don't want it

I guess the issue is what passes for "fun."

If we play Florida in a bowl game, should our student section start doing the "Bearcat Chop" after big plays?

Of course, we would... The point is that we should do our own thing

                              I second that...

We look like a little football school if we are now copying their traditions.

buckeye state was fine, but I think this is too much.

I just logged on for the first time and saw this... hadn't heard anything about it till now. My opinion is kinda mixed on it.

I was marching when we played OSU at PBS and we got treated pretty poorly by the OSU band. Many of them turned there backs to us during our performance, and they were, in general, a very rude group. This is different from the way most opposing band interact. We know its tough doing what we do. Its a pretty thanks less job, (as many of the above post exemplify) However, it something that many of us still greatly enjoy, and certainly don't do to please anyone other than those that care about what we do. Think about it your average high school and were band kids are on the social ladder. Do you think kids make the choice to continue band in college because they care about how they are perceived by others?

Those that seem to feel that we don't have enough tradition I encourage you to do a bit of research. Check these out.

Also if you payed attention during games a lot of the those "sectional traditions." Can easily be become fan traditions. For example, ever cadence the drumline plays has a vocal part like that cheers on the Cats, the way "down the drive" does. If people wanted cheers that are with the band there is an opportunity there.

Knowing the personality of UC Tubas. I'm sure this was done in a mocking way, but that may not come off to the layman. The Bearcat Band has always had to live in the shadow of the what OSU does, and I always hated that. UC band slogan is "The UC Band is Damn Good," notice there is no comparison in that statement. I always felt lets do what we do and not worry about others. Where as OSU feel that need to be the "Best Damn Band in the Land," better than anyone else.

It sort of translates to what is going on for the football team this year. While the nature of competition is to compare yourself to others, if you take care of your job (in this case go unbeaten) then there is nothing any one can take away from that.

All that aside, I'd have to see the drill move to make a real judgement, on its merit.
