Thanks for posting that link - I had friends in band so was aware of some of the things. The other thing that I've noticed is hardly anyone knows the fight song (any of the five) ~ At bowl, home, and away games I have been asked if I was a cheerleader because I actually know the words and motions to Cheer Cincinnati and alma mater. I do have a hard time remembering all of the ones to Give a Cheer... I should really look those up sometime and get it in my head again.

I know when we were freshmen (maybe on a few other occasions) little plastic key chain things and wallet cards were handed out with the fight song and alma mater words. When my sister was at Miami and I was young enough that my parents made me attend all home games with them, I feel things like that were passed out at the beginning of every season kind of like the rubber bracelets, coozis, and tshirts have been.

I think the band certainly can do a lot in terms of marketing in order to get folks to realize the traditions that have existed, and also to understand the nature of our band compared to others (did you know there are very few music majors in the band).

One thing I've considered with the boom in interest in football is taking the spring game as a chance to teach fans how to interact with band, how to join in on things they do. OSU's band success comes largely from the "skull session" stuff they do where they are the stars and they are not competing for attention like you are during a game, spring maybe a good time to pull this off.

Similar feeling to what I had. Maybe it was lost on me, but I didn't get it as "mocking". To me it had the appearance of an amateur program that couldn't come up with something original. I was cringing, and a bit embarrassed. Hopefully we can come up with something original for next season.

I think it was a cool idea to do once and in concert with the the WLW commercials that made fun of Ohio State. This is somewhat of a college "prank" and is part of what college life is about.....have some fun...great idea....I love it.
UC basketball is my favorite sport since 1959.

Please....if you are so offended.....time to move on and let some people have your seats who can enjoy what is unfolding!! You really think the band "ripped-off" OSU? Wow....how incredibly whiney some of you have become.

Great job UC Band! You do not have to apologize and if we don't get respect from OSU anyway....why care if it hurts their "feelings" or any of our grumpy crowd.

            I loved it!!

So back to the point of this thread...pics anyone? A video would be so much better.

Hopefully someone, somewhere can come up with this...I'm dying to see it.

I thought the band sounded much better on television than in years past. Regarding spelling out "Cincinnati"; I am sure there are hundreds of schools across America that do this same thing. osu does not have the sole rights to this concept. Just because osu's band proclaims its better than everyone else does not make it so. UC has a pretty decent band and it will get better with more exposure. Provide postive suggestions and don't be afraid to throw a compliment to the students in the band. Its not as easy as it looks.

I was in the band years ago, my final game was the Humanitarian Bowl, so I know what it takes to march and play. With that being said, to make us sound like a big time band Dr. Frenz needs double the number of brass players. I find it bad when I can only hear our band from the Lair because they have mic'd the band. This will take time to grow the band but it can be done.

In response to the script, I was at first annoyed by it, but after hearing the explanation I thought it was very good. It would have been nice if the announcer would have made it a little more clear, though.

I wish we could grow more but it seems that we are limited in funding to grow much more than we have this year. Right now we are as big as we have ever been at 207 i believe and we technically only get funding for 200. Hopefully we can keep on growing because I would love to be much bigger than we are right now.

Of course, that great OSU tradition of the script Ohio was first performed by the U of M band. OSU stole the idea!

We also know the words to "Red and Black" and "Give a Cheer" - they're great words and it's a shame more don't take the time to learn them.

UCMarketing, could we possibly have a page with the words to our Alma Mater and our fight songs printed in the program next year?
The Red & Black shall triumph as they are struggling down the field. Oh fight for Cincinnati: McMicken's foes shall yield.
