I’m doing the holiday thing out of town but just discovered via Mo Egger’s twitter that Tom has passed away. As someone who gave him a fair amount of crap on this site, I feel terrible. Sometimes you forget there’s a person behind the user name or twitter handle and you don’t know what they’re really going through outside of sports. My prayers to his family, friends and coworkers. RIP Tom. You’ll be missed.

I really hesitated to post this, but if his former classmate sitting in our section is to be believed, plus another completely different source, it's the saddest possibility one could imagine.

Yes, if the news that I heard is correct, then it's very sad. I saw that his family asked for donations towards mental health services in his name.
