Oscar Robertson Way?

The name of Calhoun Street would change to Oscar Robertson Way if a campaign led by a former University of Cincinnati basketball player turned UC executive succeeds.

Myron Hughes, the former executive director of the UC Alumni Association as well as a former vice president at the UC Foundation, suggested the change as a way to honor former UC player and NBA Hall of Fame inductee for not just his successful basketball career and his influence on the sport, but his impact on the city of Cincinnati.

The Big O deserves something, but there is a cost for the people living on the newly named street. He needs a tribute while he is living beyond the statue.

Can’t they list it as Calhoun St. aka Oscar Robertson Blvd.? Then residents won’t have to bother with the hassle of changing addresses, etc.

I'm personally against naming streets or making statues out of living people despite the fact that the Big O statue is a campus landmark (see Rose, Pete and Paterno, Joe).

On the other hand, his influence was large in the basketball world and went farther than UC for sure. Free agency in professional sports basically wouldn't exist without him. If you haven't read Oscar's autobiography, I'd recommend it. It goes from early life to HS to UC to NBA to later in life so you'll get a mostly full picture of what he went through and what he accomplished. My memory is fuzzy on whether Indy and Crispus Attucks HS ever named something for him.
