"The NCAA Baseball Tournament Field of 64 was announced on Monday on ESPN. And as we knew, there are two Big 12 teams, Kansas and West Virginia, hosting regionals, while five other Big 12 teams are heading to the NCAA Tournament. They are Oklahoma State, Arizona State, UCF and Cincinnati. Here is where each team is heading in the NCAA Regionals starting later this week in the double-elimination bracket."

When the Cats fell behind, 4-1, and with the Bulldogs' ace on the mound, Jordan Bischel pulled the plug on the bullpen. He inserted a frosh pitcher, then two other young hurlers later, none of whom had pitched recently, nor had thrown as many as ten innings on the season. He was looking ahead.

MSU's starter is a sophomore who is considered to be a Top 10 MLB draftee in 2027. His stuff is nasty. But his pitch count grew and the Bearcats started to get to him. The Bulldogs' coach called on a reliever and UC came to life in the eighth inning, forcing MSU to call in their ace closer. In the ninth, UC loaded the bases while cutting the deficit to 10-4. Then, a key play. Ryan Tyranski pulled a rocket that was headed to the RF corner. The first baseman dived, corralled the ball and tossed to the pitcher, just beating Tyranski to the bag. The rally died, with Derrick Pitts and Quinton Coats both striking out.

Another note on MSU. Their third baseman, Ace Reese, is a likely mid-first round pick this season. He became only the third Bulldog to smash at least 20 homers in successive seasons. The other two? Raphael Palmeiro and Will Clark. Not bad company. [However, unlike Palmeiro, he has never sat before a congressional committee and wagged his finger while lying about PED use.]

So, UC will have a rematch with Louisiana at 3:00 (ESPN+). If they win, they'll come back at 8:00 to try to take down the Bulldogs, knowing they'd have to do it again on Monday to reach the Super Regionals.

UC got off to a quick start, going up 2-0. Then, the game went south. Final: Lousiana 8, UC 6.
