From The Philadelphia Inquirer - "He agreed to sing the anthem if $100,000 was raised for former Eagles teammate Connor Barwin’s Make The World Better foundation, which has helped fund the rebuilding of playgrounds in the city". Mission accomplished.

I watched the video Lobot supplied, and what struck me was that this is one of the best renditions of our National Anthem I've heard in a while. It was sung as our National Anthem, and not as some Pop song to bring attention to the singer/singers. It was spectacular, as bearcatbret said.

It troubles me (well, it does more than that) at our basketball games that so many of the singers don't sing it straight. It also bothers me when the cheerleaders are scurrying to get into formation (as if it was a surprise that the National Anthem was going to be sung); it further bothers me that the camera people walk around to get various shots; are they exempt from showing respect for our country? Just position the cameras and join in.

I would prefer if they just didn't play/sing it at all if they are not going to do it correctly.

I’m not in the know in this but seems like the Enquirer has been against long form writing outside of the sports editorial for a while. Springer is capable is writing an article like that. The question is more why didn’t the brass let him?
