    RIP Dean Giacometti

The oldest Bearcat letterman has passed away.

The University of Cincinnati Athletics Department is mourning the loss of Louis "Dean" Giacometti, who died last weekend at the age of 102.

I knew Dean well and he was a great man. I loved to talk sports with him because, as a coach, he saw things differently than we saw as fans.

He was injured in WWII (Navy) which is why he didn't finish his interrupted football career at UC. A few years ago, at the Navy v UC FB game, Dean served as honorary captain and flipped the coin before the kickoff.

He also coached a 3-time Ohio HS state champion in tennis - Tony Trabert. But Dean didn't take much credit except for making sure the tennis courts were available to Tony.

Dean was belove by all who knew him. RIP Dean; a life well-lived.

Dean and his late wife Pat were great friends with my family and it was always a joy to see them at holiday parties to talk UC sports. RIP Dean
