I knew Dean well and he was a great man. I loved to talk sports with him because, as a coach, he saw things differently than we saw as fans.
He was injured in WWII (Navy) which is why he didn't finish his interrupted football career at UC. A few years ago, at the Navy v UC FB game, Dean served as honorary captain and flipped the coin before the kickoff.
He also coached a 3-time Ohio HS state champion in tennis - Tony Trabert. But Dean didn't take much credit except for making sure the tennis courts were available to Tony.
Dean was belove by all who knew him. RIP Dean; a life well-lived. -
Dean and his late wife Pat were great friends with my family and it was always a joy to see them at holiday parties to talk UC sports. RIP DeanComment
