UC is suing Sorsby for a million dollar buyout after he transferred.

First, all of this NIL and portal stuff makes me sick. The second article contained in that link is disturbing as well. However, the $1M penalty was mentioned as soon as he made his commitment to transfer. I suspect that some TT booster will pay the $1M.

Maybe they are counting on that $ to pay off CWM

I have not read the contract/agreement that he signed with UC. I don't believe UC would file a lawsuit if it didn't have merit to the claim(s). Sorsby and his team are already trying to litigate in public. We shall see where this leads.

i'm glad to see UC file the suit. the collegiate model has gone completely off the rails the last few years. unlimited transfers, tampering, agents, etc. i'm glad to see any school try to take a stand. maybe, if some of these agents understand that a deal runs both ways, it might help a little bit, towards calming things down. that, and tightening up the transfer elilgibiility rules, which have gone bye bye.

I think schools should put performance clauses in some of these contracts. If a player who's being paid to play at a certain level and don't perform up to the level he achieved in years prior then the schools not obligated to pay. Athletes today want to be paid like pros they should be expected to play as promised to And I agree with D.A.H something has to be done to calm all this whole NIL/ transfer portal in college sports.

I also agree, if a "student-athlete" signs a NIL contract that stipulates they stay for a certain number of years, then that person should be held accountable. I hope that all schools take note and hold their NIL players to task.

Sorsby's decision to seek treatment for gambling addiction, according to sources, came in the wake of the discovery of Sorsby making thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app, which jeopardizes his eligibility with Texas Tech.

Looks like we may have dodged a bullet and ended up saving some $$$ too.

I had no idea. He seemed like a fairly upstanding young man, other than allegedly breaching the contract to stay at UC beyond 2025-26. I hope the NCAA does not punish UC if he made bets while at UC. That would be the ultimate f-you to UC. Although, it would incentivize UC to prevail on its lawsuit against Sorsby. To be continued . . . .

Sorsby still owes UC a $1M buyout ... that he apparently just blew on-line.

Oh wow. I’m honestly not sure what to make of all this. I hope he gets the help he needs. Unfortunately, I think situations like this are going to become more common when young athletes are given large sums of money before they’re ready to handle it.
To stop this from escalating, I think the NCAA needs to take a firm stance with Sorsby and not allow him to play again. Otherwise, this kind of behavior is only going to get worse. I’m just glad he’s no longer on our team. I never had an issue with him seeking more money and transferring, but I do have a serious issue with this situation.
Personally, I believe that anyone involved in sports—refs, players, coaches, staff, medical personnel, etc.—should not be allowed to have gambling apps on any devices tied to their role or be allowed in casinos. That’s simply the cost of being part of the sports world.
That said, I’ve never really understood betting anyway. When I see those massive, expensive casinos, I just think they weren’t built because the odds are in your favor. So I’m probably not the best person to judge all of this.

I agree with you but I wonder this about myself. Do I want him to be the example because he left the Cats or because this is a major problem or both. Something has to be done.
