another great job of vetting. Something(one) must change in the AD.

Maybe not. But maybe. The allegations in the criminal case took 2-3 years to be indicted. Was there anything to discover before UC signed Kriisa? We might never know. It's potentially not a good look for UC but could also be just bad timing. The allegations apparently occurred while playing at WVU. No mention of UC as far as I know.

I understand, but I doubt if he was vetted in detail. These guys are getting big money so they need good vetting. If they had found out what he did before UC, why would they want Him? Wait they may have known about BS at Indy and still took him. Good players are hard to come by.

when you are paying 7 figures, a professional vetting is needed.

          Via Matt Jones of KSR:

"The FBI is charging Kerr Kriisa with a $2.2 million dollar scheme that included creating fake personas, claiming his mother had chancer, his family was losing its farm and scamming individuals out of money."

He is NOT charged with point shaving / there are no gambling-related charges.

Well I 'm certainly glad that he wasn't charged with any betting related charges. That would be a very disastrous look for UC considering the BS fiasco.

there had to be grumblings before he transferred.

Agree - this happened roughly two years before he came to UC, and there weren't any rumors out there? it is hard to believe. it seems like our athletic department is run by winkin, blinkin and nod.

He was doing this for 4 years. Nobody knew it. Not AZ, not WV, not KY, not UC.

I read the indictment. Allegedly (until this is adjudicated), Kriisa used nothing but aliases. He kept a low-profile and used his charm (which apparently is quite an ability) to get unsuspecting marks to hand him money, often with outlandish stories.

Con men don't advertise their activities to those around them.

I still wonder what a professional vetting service would have turned up. There had to be some red lights concerning his personality. Going forward UC has to be better on the vetting of all prospective players. There is a lot of money now going to players and Kerr isn't the only charming fraud out there. It is interesting that in both of the now most notorious cases, UC recruited both of the players.

Unless proven, will never really know if Kriisa was involved in pts shaving. After what iv'e read, I would not put it past him. But? I guarantee you he knew this was coming, and therefore played subpar basketball while at UC.
