Sam Griffin, who averaged double figures at Tulsa this season, is in the portal https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...94/sam-griffin

The kid played hard and was a great teammate and Bearcat. I didn't see his role changing or certainly increasing. He leaves with good feelings in both directions and I wish him well.

The writing was on the wall earlier in the year in the way his demeanor was on the court. Saw this coming long ago. I hope he finds a place where he plays and wish him luck!

You are correct. I don't think we stayed in the mix long once he started getting Ivy league offers though. He was headed to Princeton as first choice.

Given that at this time there are no OPEN spots... I can't see CWM encouraging someone to part just to get another guard. Big time forward/center.. maybe but not a guard.

So, once a player enters the portal can the coach look for his replacement or does the coach have to wait to see if the player actually finds another school? (which may or may not happen)
When a player goes into the portal they are basically a free agent and any school can talk to them at that point including the school they just left. They can return to their original school if they want to but the school has no obligation to hold a scholarship spot for them.

With respect to UC, Chad Brendel said he doesn't expect any such announcements for about ten days. The players are on spring break and the staff has not yet spoken to them about where they stand. That would not preclude a player from going to compliance in the interim, but it's probably unlikely.
