He's an 8th grader. Who knows how he'll develop. Likely to be taller in four years, though.

He's doesn't look or play like an 8th grader.

It looks like he will be starting on the varsity team next year as a frosh.

I've seen comments on him suggesting he has the body and skill level necessary to be a college player right now.

I'd have to think that unless the coaching staff at WInton Woods is spectacular, he'll probably be headed the prep program route at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Montverde, Oak Hills, Link or Compass by his junior year.

It's funny, but Noah Washington (another "top" 8th grader) told me that Kam said he was going to commit to UC. I had Noah in class (6th grade) and still teach at that school. I only say this because it's middle school gossip. However, if that indeed did come to fruition, it would be very cool.

I'd be crazy wary of a player committing that soon. I've seen that in the past where guys will commit 3 years out and not stick with it because they didn't realize what was up or a coaching change happens.

I thought it was just funny to listen to these kids hyping it up.

#5 in the 2028 ESPN rankings (I guess that is soon-to-be sophomores), two spots below Erick Dampier Jr.

                      Recent article / Q&A from OSU's 247 site
Kameron Mercer is projecting as a national top-five prospect in the 2028 class. The Cincinnati native had a strong freshman year at Huntington (W.Va.) Expressions Prep.

Q: How about colleges? Has Ohio State kept in touch? What have they been saying, I guess?

Mercer: "So it's hard. A lot of colleges can't speak to me. Yeah, you've got go through my parents. Yeah, I can call them personally, but they can't call me. I spoke to Coach Diebler, the head coach. I've talked to (Cincinnati) coach Wes Miller a lot. So those are the two I keep in touch with.

"I don't know, I'm ready for the circuit to start, to get more offers. But as far as now, I got Missouri, UC, Xavier, and Ohio State. Okay. Well, I know that the Xavier coach (Sean Miller) left to go to Texas. I guess I couldn't say I have that one no more. But I'm pretty sure I'll have Texas real soon."

                        Enrolling at Princeton Lobot

Five-star basketball player Kam Mercer has withdrawn from Overtime Elite and plans to enroll at Princeton High School, according his father, Craig Mercer. Kam Mercer, a 6-5 guard, is ranked No. 5 nationally in the 2028 class by ESPN. @WCPO

If 2026 are seniors, wouldn't 2028 be sophomores?

Yes. P4 staffs have been watching Mercer since he was an 8th grader at Winton Woods.

I used to know a lot of people at Winton Woods. My son was an all city baseball player, Kicker and punter on football, and soccer. But, that was when it was still Forest Park HS.
