This is a sticky topic.

There is something we need to remember in these days of instant gratification and buying existing experienced players. That is development in the system. It takes time, but as Mercer said CJC broke down his game, showed different strengths and weaknesses and outlined a plan for his growth on the way to the NBA. Yes there is the possibility of maturity and then transfer, but let us enjoy what we have at the present.
This will be a great test and comparison between wm and CJC. WM bragged on Dan Skillings going pro after his junior year. He went but to a different team as his development decreased. Can CJC develop Mercer into a NBA player. I am looking forward to watching.

I’m tired of bidding for coaches. I’m so tired of no loyalty among coaches. I’m happy to see the main attractions and get a small percentage of the revenue in this multi billion dollar industry. my niece transferred from Xavier to Marquette. She got $250,000 for one season and she’s 19 years old. She got in all electric Acura and invested the rest with me. With a **** of a start to life.Originally posted by bearcatbret View Post

It's good she has an uncle to help guide her along the way. Getting started, then learning about finances is something so many people miss out on. Good for you for steering her in the right direction.Originally posted by Corporateballa View Post

Its so off-putting when comments (from this OSU board) have 0 knowledge of what they reference. Kenyon was a nothing recruit. We got him over Temple....Originally posted by leo from jersey View Postsome had been wondering about the new nil donations and where were they being spent:
It looks like for the future and bring in the Cincy kids.
From tOSU 247 :
Needless to say, Mercer’s commitment to new UC coach Jerrod Calhoun raised some eyebrows, especially among those who felt Ohio State held the inside track to landing Mercer. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 17 prospect in the 2028 class and now clocks in at No. 31 in the 2027 class after making this move.
“It is obvious that Jerrod Calhoun got some assurances that he would have some NIL money at his disposal to make the move from Utah State to Cincinnati,” one source indicated. “Mercer is, by far, the highest rated recruit Cincinnati has signed, maybe back to Kenyon Martin or, heck, Oscar Robertson for that matter.
“Ohio State and Jake Diebler offered him two years ago before he had ever played in a varsity game. But all of that groundwork seems like it was swept away with what was described as an ‘insane NIL deal’ from UC. Diebler has more money than he’s had before, but he still has to be careful how he uses it after some previous moves backfired...... Our guy said UC and Calhoun could be working to become a thorn in the side of OSU and Diebler.
“Ohio State has offers to two more 2027 players in Cincinnati and the one they want and need is guard Joshua Tyson,” he said. “Cincinnati had Tyson and Isaiah Mack-Russell in for visits this week and Calhoun reiterated UC’s offers to them. They would be great complements to Mercer, certainly.”
The word was that the NIL would boom and many former boosters would return. It seems to be happening.
GROOVY
Abaev and Lance as noted earlier are also more highly ranked nationally as well.

where did you get the thing about KMART and Temple. I believe I have seen that but cite your work please. May post was about CJC and UC causing fear with the insate teams and not a threat to OSU. Sure their post was a call for increased giving, but nowhere in it I saw the thing about Temple. All they said was that Mercer was rated higher than KMART and he was. It was a compliment to Mercer and also to KMART and Huggs for the development. Please show where you got your statement as even though likely true, it wasn't from any post of mine.I am sure tOSU fans are jealous and are used to being top dog in the state. CJC promised he would change that. It appears as he is starting to,Originally posted by kskenyon4 View Post

The comment wasn't about your post, it was a quote in your post “Mercer is, by far, the highest rated recruit Cincinnati has signed, maybe back to Kenyon Martin or, heck, Oscar Robertson for that matter." To which kskenyon was simply saying, this shows the general lack of research by tOSU bloggers/writers because Kenyon Martin wasn't a highly rated recruit, and we've had high recruits more recently in Abaev and Stephenson.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post

Correct - purely a comment on the ignorant OSU board post saying Mercer is best recruit since Kenyon. Kenyon wasn't a prized recruit at the time. His Temple/UC story is below, where we got him because Chaney did 6am practices, ha!Originally posted by Bearcats96 View Post

no he added Temple etc. My post was to praise the Cats new direction. I am sick of being the whipping boy for tOSU, X, Dayton and even NKU. It is encouraging to see the reactions of other teams.Originally posted by Bearcats96 View Post

Perhaps a new post pointing out the Temple story would have been in order. Most of us know the story but it is good to hear it again. It is most encouraging to see lower rated guys catch the eye of our coaches and watch them grow. I loved watching Bobby Brannen develop as he was constantly put down on the WLW sport talk program by many fans.Last edited by leo from jersey; Yesterday, 02:26 PM.
