There is a good YouTube transfer portal reel of him that was recently posted online and he definitely flashed some skill in games this year (Sage can’t say the same). Sometimes it takes big guys longer to come around and adjust to this level and maybe he never will. But what’s the real downside? Besides, Bandaogo is locked into the 5 spot - so good luck trying to sell a ton of experienced, starter-level guys 15-18 mins off the bench. Sign me up if the staff wants him and he wants to come.
Don't get me wrong, I'd take Page. As you say, we in all likelihood aren't getting a starting caliper 5 to pair with Bandaogo. Whoever we get is going to have flaws. We have to hope that Wes and the program culture he has built will encourage guys to work hard and improve on whatever they need to improve. I'm thinking we will also add a 4 who can play the 5, in case whoever we add at backup center doesn't earn minutes.

But Brendel has said in the past that in his experience, low motor guys usually don't change and Page seems to be a low motor player. If that's why Brendel isn't too high on him, I can understand that.

We have floor leaders and Wes' offense flows around perimeter. You need a floor leader for a different offense than what they play. A passing big, wing, SG, PG or penetrate and dish. Taking the three or a super high percentage two is the name if today's gane. I am learning these newer stat boxes and we need a big like Page

Someone on Twitter pointed out, and I agree with them, that the whole fan base was hyped and wanted this guy coming out of HS and suddenly people don't think he's good enough.

Reading Page's high school recruiting profile, one of the big things I notice is they note that his motor isn't great. Reads a lot like I'd expect a profile of Jamille Reynolds to read.

Brendel often says that rebounding and energy are two of the things that best translate to college, because guys who give high effort in high school are going to give you that in college. Conversely, it's hard to change low motor guys. if they don't give much energy before they show up, they generally aren't going to turn into high energy guys once they arrive.

That's the best I can come up with for why he wouldn't be a fan.

I am mostly with Brendel on this. Looking at recent history, it seems like Wes is willing to take low motor guys and try to get them to change their ways, but his success rate isn't great. Even the successes have been guys who do enough elsewhere to justify playing them despite them missing a box out or not going for a rebound now and then (I'm thinking of Nolley and Simas).

There are a few people with that opinion. I've seen a couple where they think he was a four star PF simply because he played in HS with Collier and Isaiah made him look good. Without Collier on the floor he was average at best and didn't show much at USC when Collier was injured. He did not get a lot of minutes for USC which bothers me a bit.

To me he's 6'11 and has some skill, you get him, send him to Rehfeldt for the summer and see what happens. If he can displace McKinley, you have a starter at 4. If he can't, you have a decent backup at 5. We have no true center coming in and finding height in the portal can be a challenge.

He might have been over ranked coming of high school but for he fills a need for UC and is probably a long term player. Looks like he's turning out to be more of a project than people thought he would be. Also, Andy Enfield had one foot out the door all season so who knows where the coaching effort was with Page.

“Oklahoma transfer Milos Uzan has committed to Houston, he announced on Instagram. One of the best point guards in the portal -- averaged 9.0 points and 4.4 assists this past season. Kelvin Sampson needed a Jamal Shead replacement in the lineup and now he has one.”
